m gardner
There's been a severe spike in crime out here in Arizona. My mom (who lives in New York and now is sorry she voted for Obama) saw a report last week about the violence and called wanting to know if we carried guns 24/7/365 now because she's concerned for our safety. Last November when I was talking politics with her and mentioned that Obama was antigun she told me I didn't really need to have a gun. I guess the report must have been pretty graphic. The drug cartels are murdering, kidnapping and doing strongarm burglaries. We've been practicing regularly lately. We've had several incidents lately that thank God didn't require shooting solutions but pointed out the need to be prepared. I've got a new person to train now too. He's got a pistol and needs to learn to use it. I asked him last night while we were out at dinner if he could shoot left handed. He said he didn't see the need. I then asked him how he would shoot a carjacker coming towards him without shooting himself in the arm or getting hit with the empties in the eyes. He thought a moment and will join us to train now. Who else is training to survive? Or just plinking or target shooting? Mark
hungry hunter
Mark, sadly enough people train to shoot paper. When i train my new officers i teach them paper don't shoot back and you had better know how to shoot weak hand and off stance. I started a new long gun qualification on how to shoot from different angles, laying on your back. ect.
csualumni21000
I train with Tactical Response. If you are being shot at you are very likely to be shot in the hands. Training weak hand shooting and reloads are key. It is very important for the average citizen to get professional training if you are going to use a gun for defense. PotashRLS
Good Thread! I only plink due to the fact that we don't have anything organized around here for personal defense. My neighbor is a sheriffs deputy and we shoot on occasion but still nothing overly technical. I would love to learn if it were available. Wisconsin is not a CC state either so we are somewhat limited to weapon availability/access outside of our personal property or home. dexcop1
I live in NC and have pleanty of room to shoot in my yard. I practice moving and different angles and different size targets. The best you can do is practice. I use my S&W 22A because ammo is cheap. I also use my xd9 and a Bersa thunder 380 ,which I usually carry. PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE
