MCH
OSU had a horrible signing day. They filled some holes in defense and grabbed a few low end prospects. Not a single top 100 recruit! We did manage to wrangle 12 from the great state of Texas, meanwhile only 4 from Oklahoma. I won't give Mike all the blame on this one. A coaching change always hurts recruiting at least when you change to an unproven coach. I'll wait till next year before I go judging him. How did your team do? muggs
Re: Bad signing day??? The Ohio State University had one of the best in the nation, look out this season and next, I feel another Championship coming home to the Buckeye State real soon. DSGB
Re: Bad signing day??? Georgia usually does pretty good recruiting. This year was no exception. We got three Top 100 recruits and one undecided that would make the list. 45. Bryan Evans Defensive back Jacksonville, Fla. 71. C.J. Byrd Wide receiver/DB North Augusta, S.C 84. Mohamed Massaquoi Wide receiver Charlotte, N.C. In addition to those, we have a few coming out of Douglasville, Ga, which are highly respected. It won't mean a thing with DJ Suckly at QB, though. dogdoc
Re: Bad signing day??? MCH---Rivals.com had us ranked 42nd in the country on our recruiting class. we picked up some young defensive backs--our main concern. Anytime you have a coaching change it is going to hurt your recruiting. Don't worry we will be fine! todd

MCH
Re: Bad signing day??? [ QUOTE ] Anytime you have a coaching change it is going to hurt your recruiting. [/ QUOTE ] I mentioned that in my post but I added a little something. I guarantee you that if we would have hired a "Proven" football coach our recruiting class would have been better. Just look at LSU's class this year..they changed coaches . On another note, I was proud of Gundy on one of his comments. Mike said that DeForest was what saved them this year, recruiting wise. Classy move.
dogdoc
Re: Bad signing day??? MCH don't be so hard on the Pokes! LSU had the top recruiting class last year after winning the National Championship--this year they fell to #26---that is quite a fall for a top 10 program that is the top school in their State. MCH
Re: Bad signing day??? It's called tough love, todd........... LSU's drop had a lot to do with their play in 2004. If you'll look at their recruiting class, they only got 12 commitments and are still in the top 25. I'm more of a realist. If you're gonna hire an assistant coach as head coach, at the very least he should be one of the best in his field. Hiring a hometown hero has a way of biting you in the butt.... Hope I'm wrong... But I'll be right along side you in their cheering section next year anyway.
buckbuster11
Re: Bad signing day??? Pitt and Penn State both were ranked around between 30 and 40 according to rivals.com. Both did really well in my opinion. Penn State got some monster recruits including the top ranked (I think) wideout in the nation and a running back/cornerback from the Pittsburgh area that can flat out fly. Dont be surprised if PSU climbs out of the hole they have been in the last few years really quick because they have some real playmakers coming in this year. dogdoc
Re: Bad signing day??? bb11---Penn State got the #1 recruit in the country according to Rivals.com, Derrick Williams from Maryland I think. They ended up with the 25th ranked class. Pitt ended up #41 but didn't they have a coaching change also? MCH--Miles was not an experienced head coach when OSU hired him---he did great! MCH
Re: Bad signing day??? [ QUOTE ] MCH--Miles was not an experienced head coach when OSU hired him---he did great! [/ QUOTE ] You're right there........but......he was a hot commodity. Alabama and UCLA, to name a few, wanted him as their coach. He was one of the best head coach prospects, if not the best during that season. As far as I know, there was only one college team that wanted Gundy as their head coach.........OSU. Now, I truly...truly...hope that we saw something in Gundy that the others didn't...something other than hometown hero, but I'm not betting the farm on it. I seriously doubt that there's a Pokes fan that takes losing harder than I do. And to me, losing Miles was like getting stomped by OU,70-0. I quote this statistic almost daily to my friends, and I've probably said it on the forums a few times too....but since Bob Stoops has taken over at OU...only one coach has beaten him twice. If I got to choose, that's the coach I would hire.....But LSU got him.
dogdoc
Re: Bad signing day??? MCH---I agree 100% about Les Miles. He has done more for Oklahoma State football than any other coach in the history of the school--I was absolutely heart broken when he left--probably more so than if my wife left me

[/ QUOTE ] Yup thats the name doc....Derrick Williams...thats the wideout I was talking about. Justin King was the other guy I was talking about. He played high school in Pittsburgh and is unbelieveable. He runs something like a 4.31 40...incredibly fast. I think he was rated the 19th best player in the country. As for Pitt, you are right about the coaching staff. Dave Wannstadt (sp) is the new coach. I think he is a perfect fit and he is originally from Pittsburgh. Pitts recruiting job is a bit underrated I think because they had to address o and d line needs and a couple other spots. They already have the skill position players there with the exception of running backs, so they really didnt need to go after high profile guys. They did get a miny Jerome Bettis for a running back that all the big schools wanted for fullback, I think he is going to be awesome. carbonhunter
Re: Bad signing day??? Both of my teams Iowa and Ohio state are in the top 15. Good enough for me. I think signing day and such gets blown out of prop. granted it has some bearing on the future but I think your three and four star recruits are better pick-ups because they still have room to grow and mature.
