GWSmith
Re: NY Round Up? Where? I would say Sylvan Beach on the east side of Lake Oneida...possibly at the state park in Verona Beach(like maybe a whole 1 1/2 miles further south on hwy 13) But then again I'm a little biased Verona Beach State Park Box 245 Verona Beach, NY 13162 Phone: (315) 762-4463 Verona Beach State Park, located on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, is a picnicker's and camper's delight. Shaded picnic areas and the campground are adjacent to the beach with an excellent view of the water. The lake, Black Creek, cattail marshes, and bottomland hardwood swamps give Verona Beach one of the most diverse aquatic habitats in the Central Region, and well worth a hike on the "Woods and Wetland" nature trail. The winter season hosts snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and ice fishermen. The eastern portion of the park is open for hunting deer, small game, and waterfowl, in season. Hunting - DEC Permit Only Directions: Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse: Thruway (I-90) east to exit 34 (Canastota); Rt.13 north to park entrance. RTF
Re: NY Round Up? Where? Well RTF is directly in the center of NY and close to many NY folks. I am 2 1/2 hours from Epic and within an hour of GW's pic location. I gotta say though, Cooperstown is an ideal place for those who love the sports world. Both the National Baseball and Soccer Hall of fames are located here. We have two major state parks with one sitting on a 20 mile long lake loaded with trout and salmon. Now heres the good part, ACCESS. getting here from anywhere in NY is a snap. If you know how to get on the NY state thruway from your neighborhood then you will have to take only two more routes to get to Cooperstown, NY and all of it is Highway. Guys, keep me posted on this !
NYBUCK
Re: NY Round Up? Where? This sounds really exciting. I hope we make it happen. I don't have a problem going anywhere, just let me know. I will also offer our camp again. This place will sleep 7 - 12 depending if you want to double up. Plus if we do it early October we can do some hunting. It is in the northern teir. If we stay here it wont cost you anything for the stay, we just will have to bring food and whatever. I don't know if you want to make this just a forum thing or if you want to bring family, wife ect. If so, they may not like it because of the outhouse. Let me know. I am game for anything. NYBUCK
Re: NY Round Up? Where? Tim I wrote down the date and times on my calender. I will be there. If you want to send me a PM with your cell phone or home phone maybe I will give you a call and stop in for coffee. That would be awesome. We are leaving the 26th for Brockport. I have a brother who is a vet that lives in Penfield and we will be stayng with him Thursday night. Then we have to be at the college on Friday with my daughter to get her all checked in. As far as the get together goes, lets keep up on this and make it happen. It would be so cool to get a few of us together and finally meet. Really looking forward to it. Maybe we have to do something like Scott did for the national one and pinpoint some dates.
GWSmith
Re: NY Round Up? Where? NYBuck, I have been thinking it would be great to meet as well. We all live in relatively close enough mileage to get together. So far I believe that the dates are somewhere around October at your cabin or spring/summer somewhere. I'll be there....someone has to keep law and order.....LOL....I nominate YOU
NY911Bowhunter
Re: NY Round Up? Where? TeamRealTreeHunter, is that Kent, in PUTNAM COUNTY?? I think I would be more apt to make a NY area get together as opposed to the Nationwide gig.
NYBUCK
Re: NY Round Up? Where? Ok wanted to bring this back around so we dont forget about it. I would offer to host a hunt, 3D shoot, get together at our cabin on October 1 - 3. We could meet there on Friday and stay till Sunday or whatever could work for those who could make it. Rember it is Northern teir so Hunting season is open. Let me know what you think. maybe the Vermont boys or anyone else that is close would want to join us. Lets keep this going. BuckNrut
Re: NY Round Up? Where? Hey Nybuck, I grew up in Penfield and live in the next town over (East Rochester). If it's not too crowded I could stop over on the 26/27. Let me know if you're interested.
NY911Bowhunter
Re: NY Round Up? Where? I will check with the wife, but I don't think it will fly this year. Our closing costs on the house appear to be a wee more than we expected and will pretty much wipe us out for a while. Gonna be a lean few months, inclusing Christmas, but hey, at least we will have a Christmas in a house that we own. But in the event that she says, "I don't care" or "If that's what you want to do." (Which is an open ended way of her saying no that I can caontort into a YES), how about more details? This does sound exciting. How far from Albany? Stands? If so what type? Accomodations? Requirements? Dang, this does sound like alot of fun. Perhaps I shall present it as a "business trip"!
NYBUCK
Re: NY Round Up? Where? Epic it is probably a little over an hour from Albany. I can't guarantee hunting sucess. I have not shot a deer there yet. In reality i have only hunted it a half a dozen times. I did kill a bear up there last year. Everytime I went out I did see deer. We just bought this camp last year and I have spent the majority of my time fixing up the cabin, barn and shed. I will have Probably three tree stands up within a week but I still have a lot to learn about the property. Depending on if we decide to do it, I can clear more spots and I know quite a few spots that would be great for a climber. I have one that can be used. Hopefully after this week-end I will know how many will be coming or at least interested. Cost will be cheap. Basically we will just need food and drinks. Summer - those maps would be cool. I will pm you my email address. Also if you are close enough and you know the territory and its only a few miles away, you can stay at the cabin and drive to the spot your familiar with. Hopefully GW is interested in coming. By the way, my wife wants to stop at Bass Pro in Auburn on Friday (August 27th). I know, she is not normal. Anyone close that may want to meet up there let me know.
GWSmith
Re: NY Round Up? Where? I'll talk it over with the boss.....but I'm pretty sure I'll be there. I dont have classes thursday through sunday so I'm free. I have 20lbs of Fryer Leg Quarters in the freezer I'll pitch in for the grill. I'll also have the Ice covered, I have plenty of coolers, so thats taken care of too. Deer Processing will be extra.....LOL
