NYBUCK
Re: NY Round Up, Back Home Ok a quick rundown for all that didn't attend. I took the day off so I could work on the kitchen so my wife would have a place to work while I was gone for the week-end. Finished up the plumbing, laid the sub-flor and got the make shift sink back up and running. Put the stove back in and by this time I am behind schedule. Had to run to Walmart and of course it was packed and hardly anyone working the check out lines. Finally got out of there. Now had to pack quickly. And let me tell you the truck was packed. I need to buy a bigger truck, the s-10 just isn't cutting it. Well after I get everything loaded, it is after noon and I told Art, aka bucknrut that I would be there by noon. I back out of the driveway and the passenger door flies open while I am passing the neighbors iron fence. Yep, wipped it right aroung, sprung the door so now it wont open. GREAT start to the week-end. Finally make it up there and hang signs for directions and then get to camp and unload. About 15 minutes later Dave aka adkhunter/summerflower shows up. Then Art shows up, thankfully a little late. Next to arrive in Gary (GW) and Tim (Timbo). Shortly after that Dan (911bowhunter/ Epicextreme) arives After a quick tour they are off to do some scouting and hunting. When I get back Todd (Mrwiggly) and his friend Larry (who I would share a camp with anytime, what a great guy, he fit right in with all the forum members) had arrived and hunted for the last hour. That night we ate chilli, bear stew, sweet and sour bear and had a few cocktails or sodas, watched videos, played cards and swapped many stories. I will leave the rest of Saturday for others to fill in. I will tell you that we decided to go out for dinner Saturday night and I think everyone had a great time. Good food, a cocky moose killing waitress who had a answer for everyone of Dan's wise cracks. After dinner we socialized with the locals and the bartender and got our pictures taking under the caraboo and with the waitress and the bartender sporting our new blaze orange RT hats. Back at camp we sat around the fire and busted on Larry pretty good. He took it well and even gave it back. Sunday morning arrived and we waited for Ken (swamphunter) and Mike (Hillbilly) to arrive. After they showed we did a quick introduction and most went out hunting. Dan had to leave to get back to move and paint and Larry and Todd also had to head out on there 3 1/2 hour trip back home. After a great lunch, chicken B-Q by Gary, everybody else headed out except Ken and Mike. I showed them to more stands and I went and checked out some new area. By the way wigs I went deeper in from the "big rock" and found some great sign. When I got back I started packing up and shortly Mike came back to camp, a little earlier than I expected. But he had a reason. Overall one great weekend. 6 deer sighted, one bear and one deer missed. OOOOPPPPPSSS sorry Mike. Also lots of busting, story telling eating and just all out fun. It is so great to put faces with the forum members and it will be so much different when we talk on here from now on. It is amazing that a group of people who never have met can come together for common interest and hit it off so well. I think everyone had a great time and I am sure thsi will become an annual thing and grow bigger and bigger. I know that I had a great time and will never forget it. Thanks guys for making a great week-end and I am just glad I had the oppurtunity to host such a special event. Look forward to many more. Oh by the way I see why Mathews advertises so much about all the competion winners, First annual NY RT Smackdown archery tournament results were. Mathews Outback 1 - Competition (PSE Darton and all others - 0) Ha ha, I had to throw that in. Thanks Gary for the great prizes. Feel free to add special events gentleman. I know I left alot out but I ddin't want to be a hog.
Swamphunter
Re: NY Round Up, Back Home Here we go, where to start?? Mike and I left the far reaches of northern NY around 2:00am and traveled all night and arrived to a warm welcome from the guys who were waiting for us! We introduced each other, talked for a few then headed straight for the woods. We all sat for a few hours (some of us longer than others as we forgot to get Mike and he sta there until after noon!! What a trooper... he doesn't quit - hardcore for sure!!) We had a little 3D archery Tourney which have pics to post of and then had a chicken dinner for lunch. Everyone else had to leave but it was back to the woods for Mike and I and Jim. Mike got a shot at a nice fat doe but struck the only limb there and sent his Wasp mechanical to the ground with no blood on it. I didn't see anything but did hear a pack of coyotes just over the hill from where I was sitting about 10 minutes before dark. I hoped to get a crack at one of them but never saw them. After getting changed and talking with Jim for a few we headed back north and a talked all the way about the day, the guys and how Mike is gonna have more then just 1 post from now on! Hopefully he'll become and active poster. I tried to explain to him the amount of help and knowledge gained from the friendships made here. Hopefully he'll take advantage of it. It benifits us all... you know REAL HUNTERS REAL ADVICE!! Sure was a good time...looking forward to the Smackdown in the 'dacks 2005!! Can't wait for the video either... GWSmith
Re: NY Round Up, Back Home I have to mention that aside from a great place to hunt and a great place to stay our host Jim even had the RealTree Forums T-Shirts waiting for us when we arrived! I really wish I had the thought to write more of this past weekend down at the time but I did not. I was too busy having fun getting there in the first place...an entire story on its own right...LOL When me and Timbo arrived we kinda were very relieved to say the least...we thought we had heard the guy from deliverance playing the banjo when we made a wrong turn and the road, which we found out to be a 4-wheeler trail, ended for us at a very wobbly wooden bridge. I said well that looks like the truck wont fit...as I'm looking at the pieces of missing boards...and just had to stop and check it out(by walking out in the middle and bouncing up and down). We backed up a little and put the truck into 4 wheel drive and very thankfully made it back up the hill. We made it out to the road again and then found another and then another and before we knew it we were being yelled at by some guys on the side of the road we were hauling butt down...luckily it happened to be the camp and Jim and Dave doing the yelling or who knows were we would be at about now. I know Dave and I had just as much fun Friday getting people to their stands to hunt as if we were hunting too so that worked out great for us! I was able to stop at a store on the way there and get a set of climbing sticks to use with my climbing stand. I know your saying to yourself What??? Well they helped me use a tree that there was no way to put a climber on and use my base and top section of the climber as a "Lock-On" type stand...worked really good for me. Found the property to be absolutely beautiful and enjoyed the hunting alot!!! I have to say it was like Living the Forums and not just be typing into cyberspace. Think of it like this: We had the same questions that we have while we are here in the Forums....but we were able to look at people in the face and ask them and then go out in the woods and try different things while hunting. Thats not to mention that we had Bear Meat for supper thanks to ADKhunter and Blackeyed Susan!!! I have been thinking about all that happened from my perspective and that everyone else also had their own perspective too and realized just how great this was getting together and finally being able to put faces with names. We represented RealTree with pride and had really great time in the hunting woods and in public(no matter what the pictures look like...ROFLMBO) I hope other states have their get-togethers and have all the fun that we had at ours. Already made plans to attend the "2005 SmackDown in the Dacks"...one of the first things I said to the wife when I got home was I'm definitely going next year.....then I sniffed...fighting back the tears(you would be too...LOL) and said: "Good heavens do I need a shower"

BuckNrut
Re: Reflecting back on the NY Round Up OK, Now it's my (BuckNrut) turn. This trip was all that I had hoped for - met some great people, had lots of fun, and enjoyed some time afield. As Jim (NYBuck) mentioned in an earlier post I said I would arrive at 12:00 and got there on time at 1:30 or so. After chatting for awhile Jim let us loose to do some scouting and stand placement. Walking down Youker Rd (see photo thread) I noticed a swampy area with trails heading in. I figured this to be a small bedding area. There was a rige to the east I thought I could setup on off the bedding area - assuming a west/north west wind. It was this area where I saw the doe coming out of bed Friday night. She was within shooting distance, but did not offer a clear, ethical shot so I had to let her walk. A great start to the hunt, I thought. I got settled in and enjoyed some great stews - actually I was having seconds/thirds by then. The fellowship that evening was great - lots of laughs. It seemed like we were all buddies for years. Getting sleep that night was another matter. The place sounded like a regular all-night saw mill. Taking a shower the next moring was also out of the question. Jim, in his efforts to make our stay compfortable chlorinated the watter supply to eliminate the sulphur smell. Problem was he used WAAAAAAY too much and the chlorine was just as bad as any sulphur smell. So there I was, 5:00 am taking an "outdoor shower" with water (about 35 degrees) brought from home - burrrrr. I think enough has been written about Saturday night at the resturant - one of my best times out in quite awhile. Looking forward to seeing THOSE pics! Now about those Muzzy broadheads. They were a gift from another member of the Smackdown. Since Jim had a broadhead block at camp I decided to check them out. What a pain trying to put one together. I don't like the way they interlock inside the body and found them difficult to install. Sorry Michelle Kremer, but I don't plan on purchasing Muzzys anytime soon. All things considered the 2004 Smackdown was a great time. We plan on getting together again next spring for some habitat improvement projects and spring clean up. Best wishes to all of you this season. Art
NY911Bowhunter
Re: The TRUTH about the Smackdown! I got home to our new house in the same condition I left it in - UNPAINTED! Made it safely, stopped at Walmart on the way! Here is what I learned on the Realtree Roadtrip; No matter how old you are - it is STILL funny when someone farts while you're all in bed! (not in bed together - in your SEPERATE bunks) Timbo snores like a MADMAN!!!! ADKHunter is younger than he appears in his teeney pic on the avatar - and his wife cooks a mean sweet and sour venison (oh yeah - Black Eyed Susan means a flower - NOT related to domestic abuse!) Bucknrut - This man is absolutely HARDCORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went out early Saturday AM to cook GW his eggs and was greeted not by the crack of dawn - but the crack of Art! There he was - 40 degrees out - buck naked dumping a gallon of water on his head!!! All he said was "shower"! That left an imprint in the head! Later at the resteraunt he confesses his age - 20 years older than he looks - heck - his bow looks older than he is! Whatever he drinks - it works! GWSmith - funny, funny, guy - you'd be hard pressed to meet a finer human being. Except his bowels - those just ain't right. NYBuck - Dang that boy shoots a bow and arrow! Just ask my GoldTip that he shot in half!!! Not too keen on using screw in tree steps either! The only guy I ever met that could stink up an outdoor crapper! All in all - as much as I missed my family - it was good to get away from the stress and just relax in the middle of nowhere with complete strangers! I saw two good red squirrels - probably 140 class, but I passed them up in hopes of a solid 160! Camp was great - maybe a LITTLE too much bleach in the water - but we managed! Food was phenomenal, coffee was just right. The double dumper was a little rough - kinda leaned on one side - and you hated to be more than third in line - especially after GW or NYBuck! I thank Jim for his invite, for helping to get us Realtree'ers together! Thanks to all who attended for making the weekend memorable! Not a greater group of guys walks the Earth! Thanks to God for blessing the bartender - whoever she was! Thanks to Realtree for the hats! An autographed version is proudly displayed at the establishment we were at! That Rocked!!!!! GWSmith
Re: MEMORIIIIIEEEEESSSSSSS! It would be nice to get more deer sightings while in the stand. Let me know if you need any help when you go to prep/plant the food plots. I know that this season was a real bust for me in my home state....the private land I had to hunt gets slammed by poachers on the last weekend of bow season....I thought it was strange how everyone was sighting in their rifles during the last 2 hours of daylight...I'm sure they were just sighting in their guns I ended up going to West Virginia to get my deer this year. It would be nice to get another one with my bow...in my home state.
