hammerforged
I am in a bit of a quandery, I made a knife for an individual deployed to Afghanistan. The knife survived the owner did not:(. (IED) The family has returned the knife to me to do with what I will, they have made it clear that they do NOT want the knife, the sheath which was made by BladeTech did not survive with the knife. This is a knife based on my "Kosovo Special" which can be viewed on my web site - www.rtcustomknives.com on the "Knives" page. I don't know what to do with the knife. Dawg
Wow, that's a tuff one Ross .............maybe donate it to another soldier? I dunno what I would do in a situation like that, really. :(
Tominator
Oh my. Tough one. Anyone would be honored to have that knife. Only thing that comes to mind would be to maybe auction it off and give the proceeds to a worthy cause. Steve B. has started a fund for RT members, maybe send the proceeds to him? I know of one member who needs some help now, although he hasn't asked for it.

clrj3514
i like the above ideas bud. but if she was a good friend of yours you may want to hold on to it as a little something to remember her by
redkneck
Sad story, Ross. My first thought was that I'm sure he had some really really close friends in his unit that might would like to have the knife to keep to remember him by. Ohiobucks
Only thing that comes to mind would be to maybe auction it off and give the proceeds to a worthy cause. I like this idea, with the proceeds going to her family or a charity in her name that the family picks out. Tough situation for sure. Prayers sent up for her family, she paid the ultimate price for her country.
Hoosierbuck
I think a small tribute to the owner would be ideal. Whether it be at the Fort, or at the lady's county's museum, etc. A little plaque with her picture, dates of service, in memoriam would be nice. I don't think giving it to another owner is right, somehow. On one level, it's a just a knife, but on another, it was made with her in mind, it was hers, she had it with her when she was killed. That's a lot of mojo in that blade. Tough one, though, Ross. You're a class guy, I know you'll find a fitting purpose for it to serve. If you were to decide to auction it off though, would agree with Ohiobucks on giving to the family's favorite charity.

Randy
Wow, that's a tough one Ross. There's a few real good ideas posted already, I'm not very good with things like this. Prayers sent for you and her family. She gave the ultimate sacrifice for us.
pendog
First Sorry Ross for the loss of a friend and praying for the family, I guess the hurt they are feeling wont allow them to keep the knife. I wonder if they will change their minds in the future, i would hate to see it auctioned off and then when they might want it back it would be gone. Alot of my wife's things that i never wanted to see again i gave away and wished now that i didn't;) If you think they would never want it i would send it to the unit commander and let them display it with honor. I would hate to see it in a guy's knife collection. Just my opinion
pendog
Ross did she have children or a husband? Just wondering about that route.
nativetexan
You know, now that I think about it..I would put it in a nice wooden box, and keep it.
stevebeilgard
first, ross, i'm sorry for the loss. i have some experience in this field, and chris had the right idea to me. put the knife on a special 30 day auction on ebay, clearly describing the knife, how and why you made it and for who, and why it's for sale. then, give all the proceeds to the wounder warrior program or something similar. pick a good cause that she would care about, with all of the money going to that cause. good luck. hammerforged
She was not married and did not have children, just 20 years old. Thanks for all the suggestions. I will talk with her parents and sister about the auction idea.

LifeNRA
You could aways send it back to her unit, and ask them to keep it in her name. Maybe have her name engraved on it. Really tough one here, my sincere condolences to her family.

Dakota
Prayers going out to you and her family, Ross. Boy, you are in a quandry. It's a tough decision and I'm glad it's not my responsibility. Dakota
OJR
Tough call, but how about selling it on an auction and use the proceeds to start a scholarship for kids who really need the $$? This scholarship would be in her name and if there is enough seed money from the auction, this thing could go on indefinitely! Sorry to hear about the loss of life and please send my condolences to her family.
