Yeppers that would be a deer rub for sure, they love cedars and the aromatic smell that comes from them...... must put a sexy smell on them for the does!

But if it is a large diameter tree it is more than likely a larger buck doing it. He may be nocturnal on you is why you have not seen him. This would be a good spot to pick a trail leading to or from it and post a trail cam to see what he looks like.

Good Luck

Kirk

Yea as the picture shows, a big rub doesn't mean a big deer necessarily. You can sometimes tell if a big buck made the rub though. If it's looks new and like it's only been rubbed on once then you can tell to an extent. If it's a big tree and the rub wraps around it a bit or you see ticks or marks up farther above the main rubbed up area then it could be a big deer. If it's a big sappling (moderate sized tree) that's broken it could be a big buck. Another thing is sometimes you can see deeper scrape marks up and down the tree, brush, pole, or post. Basically anything that indicates that a buck with a massive muscular neck (compared to the small buck in the picture above) made the rub will tell you that....well a big deer probably with a big rack made it.

My opinion,

Dan
