J.ALLEN.IA
As times continue to be uncertain, I am applying for jobs in Illinois around Joliet/ Chicago burbs or Peoria. Anyone share how the hunting is around these areas? It would kill me to move away from the great Iowa hunting, hoping there's some good timber outside of the burbs. Mach1
The greater Peoria area has some good hunting. Not sure about public access in the area.
fly
Don't know much about Peoria. South and West of Peoria is where most of the action is. I've heard good things about Siloam Springs and even better things about Sangchris state Park near Springfield.
layin on the smackdown
You could be making a HUGE mistake my friend...I recently moved to where i live now in north northwestern IL (southwest of Rockford about 30 min) and have learned the hard way that it is not a hunter friendly area...I say that light heartedly, as i have made some great friends over the past year who have lived here for some time, and have plenty of places to hunt. When i say "not hunter friendly" i mean that in the sense that it is extremely hard to find places to hunt...mind you, we are a good ways from the burbs, and it is still almost impossible to get permission to hunt private ground. I moved here in an effort to advance my career, purposely avoiding the burbs and thought it would be fairly easy to gain access to ground....it is far from easy... I moved from Central Illinois, where i had no problems gaining access/permission to hunt on private land, and assumed becuase where i was moving to was very rural, that it would be fairly easy to find a place or two to hunt...i couldn't be more wrong..The closer you get to the burbs, the harder it is to get places to hunt. It is nearly impossible to find spots to deer hunt in the suburban counties as most of it is leased and or owned by clubs and or outfitters. and if its not, its already being hunted on and maxed out with people. Also, you will encounter a lot of idiots in those perimeter suburban counties.... that being said....i can't wait to move back down to central/southern IL:D Your best bet is to concentrate your job seach around the peoria/springfield/decatur area. Good luck... Edited February 24, 2009 by layin on the smackdown
HOYTnMUZZYboy
I live in Northern Illinos, Hunting is pretty good. There's big bucks all over the state. I would be more worried about finding a place to hunt up here in Northern Illinois. Theres some pretty decent public property to hunt around here. I know there's some other forum members that live in this area too, pm one of us if you need more info.
Sam16
I live in the suburbs of Chicago and hunt in Galena, IL. In researching areas, i've learned that the Peoria area is extremely good for big deer if you can find a place to hunt. I hate to say, as a citizen of the suburban part of Chicago, that people are a bit different up here... I wish people were like the rural people i've met in Illinois
