bfletch7441
I'm in the market for a pickup, and have found a good buy on an 04 Toyota Tundra. It's got 40k miles on it, and the price is really good. Anyone here own one of them? Pros/Cons? Thanks Ben
Casey
I have a 2008 and the truck itself is awesome. Runs good, awesome power. But the technology is worthless inside the truck, I had the radio replaced twice and stupid crap always seems to happen with this truck. Shaun_300
I've heard good things and bad things, personally I wouldn't own one. I just can't stand the way they look. The interiors suck, supposedly they don't ride worth a hoot. I know they had a recall on bad camshafts (not sure what year). Want my honest opinion? Buy a Chevy. OJR
I have a 2007 Chevy Colorado and it is great! No problems at all and I have over 19K miles on it! It rides great! We used it on a trip to the midwest last summer and put on over 4,000 miles. I averaged over 21mpg with it!

Grizz
I use to be into the car business, before it dropped out, and had the chance to sell just about every kind of truck out there. Here's my $.02... If it's a domestic truck (Ford, Chevy, Dodge) it'll be good for about the first two years, after that expect to spend a good amount of time in the repair shop. From what I've seen transmissions and rear ends were normally the first to go on domestic trucks. At the dealership I worked for we always had more domestic trucks in the repair bay than anything else. If it's a foreign truck (Nissan or Toyota) it's gonna last a LONG time, and I'm talking motor and transmission, but with a few quirks along the way. For example, Nissans are notorious for making noises after a few years. This is b/c the grease they use to lubricate certain joints and hinges just gives out, or comes off, not sure why, it just happens. Another thing I've seen with the foreign trucks is an issue with wiring. I've driven and owned foreign trucks and just about everyone that comes off the lot used has some kind of electrical mishap. Another example is the pickup I have now, Nissan Frontier. There's a headlight that always flickers on and off for no apparent reason, same with the CD player, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt, and I've seen the same in a lot of Toyota's. And yes, the interior isn't as fancy as domestic trucks, but in my opinion, it's a truck, the interior shouldn't have to be fancy. Sounds like you've got a great buy IMO. I would personally own a foreign truck, over a domestic truck if I'm wanting dependability, but if I'm buying the truck for looks I'd probably end up with one of the new GMC's, but that's just my personal taste. craig mack
I have a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 200,000 miles. Never had any major repairs. It has been a very dependable truck. I have a 05 Dodge Ram 2500 w/ 100,000 miles. No problems at all so far. Has been a great truck. I work for Chrysler so I guess I'm biased but I would never own a foreign car or truck and they are not allowed in my driveway. billkay
I have a 2006 Tundra with 40k on it. Not a single issue, at all. I had a Chevy Blazer that I paid about 15k for. In the time it took to pay off the vehicle, I had sunk about anothr 5 k in it for repairs. I've also had Honda cars, Toyota cars, and Nissan cars, and have yet to have one that didn't work flawlessy, with normal maint., well beyond 200k. VermontHunter
My Dodges are American made. And the profits from them dont go to Japan. BEG, to differ .... The ONLY true AMERICAN made and BUILT vehicle in the USA is the Toyota Camery and the Tundra .. and those profits stay here according to the trade agreement when these plants were built .. Now Chrysler, Ford, and Chevy are assembled here but most every part is made in another country .. Lets see here ... who has dealings with who .. Chevy with Toyota Chrysler with Mistubishi Ford with Mazda Toyota with Toyota .. Yep true american enginuity there .. IMHO the only good vehicle out there is the one that doesn't break down on ya and cost ya a fortune before 70,000 .. All in good fun my friend .. toddpipkin
I have an '04 Tundra, V-6, with 89,000 miles. Never had a wrench on it for anything other than routine maintenance. I think it's a GREAT truck. My next one, in 2014, when my son turns 16 and I pass my current truck down to him, will also be a Toyota!! Whitetail Freak Hunter
We all like our choice of trucks that is why I bought Toyota, as the wife has a Highlander and I have a 89 4 cyl, 5 speed, Pick Up 4X4 ex-cab ~SR5/Takoma~ was made here in the good ol USA as well and is still going with 180K on her. Still can't figure if I should call it a SR5 or Tacoma, no matter heard others just say it's a good ol American made Toyota Truck from Fremont, Ca by UAW. They have been cranking out over 170K Toyota Tacoma trucks every year since 1984. Heck life is too short to argue where things are made... with hunters using arrows that are made in Mexico, Korea and the like, underwear made in china or some other swet shop etc... you get my point. Just enjoy your ride. Edited February 26, 2009 by Whitetail Freak Hunter
stevebeilgard
my lawyer son in law has a '05(?) tundra and loves it. it's a club cab. he needs a crew cab, and is looking at a new one. his truck is much smaller than my crew cab duramax chevy. i put 160,000 trouble free miles on my '03 and bought a new '06. i love it also. it's at 59000 miles and i've never done a thing except change tires. keep any new vehicle lubed and greased and it will go hundreds of thousands of miles. i've had foreign and domestic, and like them all. domestic are just bigger. i also get 18.4 mpg (just checked on a 3,048 mile trip) and the toyota struggles to get 16. how's that?
