kingduckhunter
i ordered some duke #3 coil spring traps with a 6" jaw width and am wondering if that is too big for coyotes and foxes. i would prefer not to break legs. should i downsize to a smaller trap? and if so what size? what will a #3 do to a fox? thanx, jj
Strut10
#3's are too much gun for fox. You will end up breaking legs or at the very least, causing undue damage to the trapped animal. # 1 1/2 or 1 3/4 is optimum for fox. The 3's are the berries for coyotes, though. I compromise and use #2 offset jaw Bridgers. They are very strong. But the jaws do not completely come together when the trap fires. There's a 1/4" gap or so.
