Bass fishermen, Need some advice.

I am just starting to fully get into bass fishing. I have fished for them but mainly in ponds.

My question is what are your go to lures that you would not go to the lake without.

I am going to bass pro shops in a couple weeks and I need to stock up on my bass fishing lures. Right now all I basically have is a couple spinnerbaits and an 8 ft sexy shad crankbait.

A buddy was telling me that I need to get some baby brush hogs with a spot head jig? Not sure what they are. lol:)

Any help is appreciated.

and an 8 ft sexy shad crankbait.

WOW! Thats a big lure, not sure I want to see the bass that takes that! LOL!

:D:p:D:p:D:p:D

Get yourself some plastic worms, worm hooks, and some weights for this. Personally I use the Berkley power worms. When all else fails, topwater, cranks, spinnerbaits, and etc. Thats my reach to bait! Ill always catch a few fish with these. ;)

That didn't quite come out the way I wanted it too. I don't know if I could get the fish that hit that bait into the boat lol.

Seems to me you've posted a lot of pics of smallies. So, are you asking about smallies, or largemouth?

Tube jigs (blue/black, black/smoke) are killers for smallies.

Sorry I should have specified about that. I am targeting largemouths.

When I lived in Michigan, I knew how to catch the local smallmouths.

Now that I am down here in Missouri, I am understanding the main game fish is Largemouths. I am used to fishing for walleye and Smallmouth in streams and now I will be targeting Largemouths in lakes.

Right now on my "shopping list" I have a couple of the KVD sexy shad crankbaits in the shallow runners. The KVD redeye crankbaits. (the lipless ones which I assume is something like a rattle trap). A couple of the KVD spinnerbaits. The Stacey King jig and trailer kit. Some baby brush hogs and some suspending jerk baits. Just to start off with. :)

In case you were wondering, KVD is my favorite pro fisherman.

I'm a slow presentation person. The only time I will fish a hard bait is when the top water action is hot.

My favorite soft lure colors are as follows:

1. Watermelon Candy

2. Green Pumpkin

3. Watermelon Red

4. Christmas Tree

5. Watermelon

6. June Bug

7. Plum

8. Red Shad

I usually fish the last 3 during the summer months and the others during the last part of winter all the way through spring.

My favorite rigs are:

1. Wacky Wormin'

2. Carolina Rig

3. Texas Rig

As far as soft plastic lures, they are:

1. Senko or Zero

2. Zoom Trick Worm

3. Zoom Fork Tail

4. Zoom Z-Nail

5. Zoom Super Fluke

6. Zoom French Fry

7. Zoom Big Dead Ringer

8. Zoom Ole Monster

I have all of this every time I go out.

Most of the usual suspects have been covered, but let me add a couple more.

For late spring through early fall a weedless frog will produce some nice topwater bites, especially around vegetation. I like a Spro or a Scum Frog brand.

And for almost anytime of the year, you'll need a few Rattletraps. Get a couple that mimic a shad and a perch color.

Good luck!
