Do you wear a harness?

I've always had issues with heights. I get dizzy when I'm on a tall ladder, my roof (one story house). It was a real challenge for me to get in a tree stand when I moved to Indiana 3 years ago.

Then, on the second week of hunting out of a climber, it gave way and I fell around 12 feet. Half way down the top half caught and dug in, catching the back of my knees (I was facing he tree) and swinging me upside down for the remainder of the fall. I saw my kids, my wife...a thousand images in less than a half second! I knew I was done. Actually, when I flipped upside down, I was only about 3 feet from the ground, which also had about 4 inches of fresh snow on it. I landed upside down on the back of my neck and gently rolled onto my back. The top piece that caught broke my fall and probably stopped me from having two broken legs, which I've already had by the way! I walked away...not after sitting up, thanking God and crying like a baby. LOL!

Then, my neighbor who set me up with the stand and had been hunting all week with me, said "they make safety harnesses but I never thought about wearing one". THANKS ALLOT A!@#!LE!! I bought one the next day! Now, I have a two-man ladder stand. I have three harnesses for me and my boys. I didn't wear one in the ladder stand this last season. BTW, my neighbor still hunts from a climber with no harness and takes his toddlers with him. Not smart, IMO.

When using a climber you simply move it up as you gain height adjusting it as you go for the tree diameter.

Yes you attach it at the ground so your safe from the start of the climb;)

I actually like the process because no matter how much of a hurry I'm in to get up there it forces me to climb slower:cool:

The only time I step off the ground without one is to get in my truck or a box blind. You can use them in a ladder stand, or climbing sticks or climber from the ground up, you just have to put a little effort into it.

Take it from someone who lived through a broken back after falling from a stand. Don't do it MOST of the time, do it every time you leave the ground.

i have my seat of the pants harness and i always wear it... that being said i went to get my ladder stand yesterday. i forgot it and figured i would be alright with my friend holding the ladder at the bottom and the strap in the middle. when i unstrapped the top nothing happened, as i started climbing down boy did i get nervous as the top started leaning back away from the tree, it would have been tricky but never again without the belt!

THAT IS A COOL IDEA GARY!:cool::cool::cool: I tie my two sections together so one doesn't drop (had that happen once but never again:rolleyes:) but I really like the idea of lifting up the loops. Gary you da man!!!!!:D

Them old guys really do have some good ideas! I like it too! The worst part about coming down from the tree is trying to get my feet into those stirrups without falling backwards... even though I am wearing a harness.

I'm referring to my little bow stands in my little muddy spots....hehe. Cut me a little slack....old habits die hard. I will no doubt wear it next year in my lock-ons. I'm just being honest, i dont always wear my seatbelt, and i know i wont always wear a harness in a 12 foot stand. But, hey, i'm coming around slowly!

I have to get an extension for my hunter safety harness. there's one treestand that i've moved and it's now turning into a better spot and it was practically my best spot before. well the new construction of it makes it hard to use a short harness and still move around; so i don't wear it at times. i think it's about time i get an extension and make it work or not go in the stand.

I really dont. I know I am putting myself in danger. As a matter of fact I have two that came with my tree stand but have only taken one with me twice. This year is different though. I am married and have a good job. I wear a belt on the job why not while hunting. I fell at work about 3 weeks ago coming down my ladder. I got lucky and rolled when I hit. I was hurting a few days but was not hurt bad. I want to get a HSS Vest because the two I have suck for hunting. They are cheap and when I draw my bow back it my arms get stuck. I know that doesnt validate not using it but this year I will use on. You guys can hold me to it.

always wanted to, but the ones that come with the stands are a joke and impossible to get on quickly and easily. Thankfully, my girlfriend nagged at me to wear one as well as my mom so I said, Fine, that's what I want for my birthday.

My girlfriend bought me a hunter's safety system vest! Quick, easy, comfortable, and safe!

but all my hunting stuffs in my first will.....
