HUNTINGMAN
The way I look at this is I am a tough manly man:D,therefore,I am afraid of hights and never leave the ground without a safety harness when hunting from a treestand or working in a lift at work.:DI have three kids that I want to watch grow up no matter how nerve wracking it is going to be and I dont want to miss it for anything.SO doing something stupid like falling from a tree isnt going to stop this,I never fell from a tree when I was a kid and got hurt bad so you would think that an older and wiser adult would have a little more sinse and not fall, but a harness is a personal choice so to each there own. PotashRLS
Next thing you know i'll put a seatbelt on my motorcycle.... Seatbelt on a motorcycle is an oxymoron..........they are actually called DonorCycles in my line of work:(
Indianahunter
Thank you for sharing that. I just ordered a new Muddy Outdoors safety harness should be here in a day or so. I hope that everyone has Christ as this man did, but you still have to be responsible for ourselves and wear the harness.
Rhino
As of this year I do, at least when I'm in lock ons. Finally pulled the trigger on a HSS and it's worth it in my opinion. When I'm in my climber I don't.... You can come out of a climber just as easy as a lock on rhine16. Short climber fall story to share here. I was in Iowa with a buddy bowhunting. Unknown to me, my buddy decided to hunt out of his climber without his safety harness. While in his climber around mid day he put his weight toward one edge to check out an approaching buck. The stand shifted and flipped him out and fell ~14'. I didn't even know about it until dark when I came to pick him up. He was lucky to only break a couple of ribs and sprain his back. He missed the rest of his hunting time though and it was a couple of years before he felt OK about even being up in a treestand again. A HSS is just too easy and comfortable to hunt with to leave it behind bud. Now for both of you. I'm one of those survivors from a fall of close to 25' back in Jan., 1986. Back in those days nobody thought much about safety belts. Treestands were sort of a new hunting item. Remember the old Bakers? Anyway as a result of my fall I broke my right femur in 3 places and sprained my back. Yep...I was lucky. I only spent 3 1/2 weeks in the hospitol (the 1st 8 days in traction) and then it was another 1 1/2 months before I could get out of bed. It only took me 7 months to essentially recover except for the fact that my right leg is 5/8" shorter than my left leg now. Well that and the 2nd operation to remove the steel rod in my right femur, which put me back on crutches for 6 weeks. To this day my back bothers me every now and then when it never did prior to my fall. Yep...I sure was lucky...I can still walk and hunt. BTW...my doctor told me somewhere down the road I'd probably have problems with my right knee. He was right about that too. A few years back I was and had it checked out. I was told there was nothing they could do about it short of a total knee replacement. I may be looking at that sometime in the future too. redkneck
Let us know how you like it. I'm going to get one before next season, so your input will be usefull.
GWSmith
"Do you wear a harness" Yes...I even wear my HSS when theres just a slight chance of me using the climber I carried into the woods. Aside from how comfortable it is, when it's adjusted properly, it also has a D-ring near the lower back which you attach the deer drag to...it makes it fairly effortless to pull when attached at that point. Yes wearing a harness is a personal choice but so is ducking down when you hear shots fired in your direction. It reduces your chances of getting tagged...toe tagged! jm23494
I wear my HSS every time I'm in a tree, especially when I'm in my climber. I know a few people who have fallen out of tree stands without harnesses. Unfortunately one of them died from the fall. Here is another question for those that use climbers: How many of you use the rope to tie the two sections together?
RangerClay
Alright, i'll make the commitment to wear it next year. No promises that i wont break the rules, BUT....seeing as how i've never even put mine on, this is a big step forward. I'm going to give you a chance to put your money where your mouth is. I have one of these, http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/pod-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20712-cat20053_TGP&rid=&indexId=cat20053&navAction=push&masterpathid=&navCount=1&parentType=index&parentId=cat20053&id=0032878 It is in the L/XL size. I have only worn it 3 or 4 times. I really like it but I have recently upgraded to the HSS Pro Series vest. Look at Cabelas price plus shipping. I will sell you mine for $65 shipped. I am going to offer this to you first before I put it up for sale in the lounge and AT where I will have no trouble selling it.
Guest TennesseeTurkey
I used to have a box blind so no need for a harness but this year Im looking at a 22' ladder from lone wolf...Ill probably use one then....

You mean like this little cord here that also helps me get my big feet into the loops without any trouble;)
RangerClay
You mean like this little cord here that also helps me get my big feet into the loops without any trouble;) THAT IS A COOL IDEA GARY! I tie my two sections together so one doesn't drop (had that happen once but never again:rolleyes:) but I really like the idea of lifting up the loops. Gary you da man!!!!!

layin on the smackdown
Good replies by all...Redneck, i use to be stuborn like you, especially becuase all the safety harnesses that came with stands resembled a tangled fishing net, and were a pain to put on, so i never wore one when i first started bow hunting. Then i bought myself a Gorilla safety vest(its similar to the HSS) but without the seat belt buckles. It is extremely easy to put on, light wieght, and affordable for the average joe. Id take a look at em if i were you.
Guest TennesseeTurkey
The rope between the two parts on a climber is a must....
layin on the smackdown
The rope between the two parts on a climber is a must.... I would agree and add...that i feel climbers are more dangerous than hang ons becuase there is so much room for error...with hang ons, you are in or and out, with climbers, you are in, climb up, in, climb down... I still love climbers, but i figured i would throw that in there. JMO

hyperflow
Whats odd is i had never even heard of a safty vest tell like 2 years ago. I have never even seen one or heard of anybudy using one in my life. I have still never even heard sombudy around this area use one. How are thoes things while climbing? Or do you just latch it on when your at the top? I climb with a summit climber. I understand how sombudy would a lonewolf climber would want one. Thoes things are death traps. I attach it to the tree right when i get in the climber and just slide it up as i go. I think there is the greatest possibility of an accident happening on your way up or down, so i don't climb without being attached to the tree. I think there is the greatest possibility of an accident happening on your way up or down, so i don't climb without being attached to the tree. When using a climbing stand or going up stick ladders, I always am tethered to the tree. That is without a doubt the most likely time for an accident to occur. Whats odd is i had never even heard of a safty vest tell like 2 years ago. I have never even seen one or heard of anybudy using one in my life. I understand how sombudy would a lonewolf climber would want one. Thoes things are death traps. Summit climbers if I am not mistaken all come with a rope and a prussik knot climbing system. No reason not to use it. Slip the rope around the tree and slide the rope up as you climb. With stick ladders, I use a rope tied off above my rt hanger that ties off to the bottom of my ladders. On those ropes there is a sliding prussik knot, simply slide it up with one hand as you climb.
