It depends on what you want to shoot and what you consider to be moderately priced. What is your budget? Do you want to shoot trap, skeet, or sporting clays. I use a sporting clays gun for sporting and skeet. For trap I have a few trap guns. Typically, trap guns have straighter combs and shoot higher patterns than the skeet or sporting clays guns. Since the target is always rising, a higher pattern will allow the shooter to always have the target in view. A flat shooting gun on the other hand will cover the bird on the shot. I have used a sporting clays gun for trap. I have won a few tournaments with it. My scores went up with the transition to a trap gun.

Good entry level guns with decent prices are the Remington 870 Trap and the 1100 Trap. Winchester got out of the trap gun game a long time ago. Browning has good entry level o/u guns and single shot guns. The Browning Citori XT Trap is a good gun. So is the BT-99 single shot. Unless you are shooting doubles in trap the BT-99 is a good choice. The Charles Daly Superior Trap is a decent o/u gun for the price. DeHaan has a very good gun for the price in their o/u U4 Trap gun. Personally, my choice would probably be the DeHaan U4. It's priced under $800, is a good quality gun, and has nice lines.

I use a field gun for my sporting clays. I shoot those for fun. But trap is a different story. You need a trap gun----AJ gave the reason. I used a field grade 870 when I started shooting trap----then I got a used BT-99------my scores went up & up. I also started to win some shoots !!! I still shoot it today. As far as doubles in trap------that's just for show-----the dough is handicap. That's where a 34" single shot like the BT-99 shine.

I like the gun in the pic, what does that one run in price ?

That's the 4U Trap gun and it runs $755 + shipping to your FFL. It has a single selective trigger, extractors, SGr-10 engraving, recoil pad, and 5 choke tubes. Its a good buy.

Just get to the 27 yard line AJ-------They can't put you any further back than that !!! grin.gifgrin.gif

In all honesty if a guy wants to start trap shooting. I would go to the trap club & look at used guns. Shoot them all see which one fits the best & go from there. It seems like there are always guns that are being sold or traded. I would not spend @ $1000 on a new gun----until you know that the game is for you. Shoot used--then move up to Kreigoff, Perozzi or a Berritta combo. Just my opinion. Trap shooting is an addiction-----"SMOKE EM "------Who needs a new a pick-up-----I just want to run a 100 straight !!

I think the Browning Cynergy is just one of the sweetest guns made, it just looks good! I guess I would have to pick this one!

They do not make a trap gun though. They do make a sporting clay gun.
