Spur Collectors....Turkey Team #3

Catrina, don't feel bad, sounds like you had a very fun hunt none the less. Don't beat yourself up to much, if you didn't feel comfortable with the shot then you did the right thing by not shooting. You could have shot and missed and then your confidence would really be messed up. He'll be back, sounds like you are on them. Good luck

Well my season is over here in MS except for taking other people, I managed to get number 3 Friday afternoon. He was a field bird that I have been chasing all season. Never did the same thing twice. I got some of it on film.

Ill post my hunt in the turkey forum. Here is a pic. he had a 9.75"beard and 3\4"spurs. He was a very smart two year old.

Wow 3seasons, nice bird there. Congrats. I went yesterday and all I shot was a water moccasin at 2 1/2 yards. I was sitting on the ground at the base of a tree and there was a stump about 5 yards in front of me. The snake came slithering up my side of the stump and then onto a pile of sticks and brush that was right in front of me. After I shot I didn't hear any gobbling at all. Kinda got ancy sitting on the ground due to it was so hot yesterday and saw a couple snakes on my way out to the field. I gave up and came back to the house. My hubby(wtnhunt) is out now hunting. I opened the back door and could hear at least 3 gobblers going crazy. Hope he gets one this morning, then I can go back out this afternoon.

Not had any luck with harvesting yet. I did have several birds gobbling this morning but they never came where I could see them. I had also heard some hens so I think the boys were hanging out with the girls. I plan on going back out in a little bit. We have a storm system heading our way and I think they will feed in the field heavily before going up to roost. Maybe I'll get a crack at one of 'em before they get away....hehehe. Wish me luck.

My season opens next Saturday. My fiance's dad and brother were out for the PA youth hunt and had a gobbler fly down to within 15 yards of them. Unfortunately he came in from behind and a hen busted them before he worked around to the decoys. :( So the season is looking promising.

Just checking in here to see how everyone's season is going. Haven't been on the forums much here lately. I have gotten to go out several times but still no luck. I seem to be able to locate where the birds are at but they seem to go the opposite direction when they fly off the roost. I have tried several different calls but just haven't had any luck. Maybe next weekend it won't be so dad gummed wet. It has rained every day for the last week. Good luck everyone.

Sorry I haven't updated since a week or so ago things have been a little hectic at work and life in general. :)

For the opener I set up in the corner of a field with a stream in the woods to my back and heard 6 or so gobblers fire up just before daybreak. One of them was about 100 yards from me down towards the corner of the field. Some idiot came down the opposite side of the corner and started calling as soon as the bird fired up. Needless to say the bird wasn't the only one fired up. Unfortunately the bird flew down across to the opposite side of the stream and I never did get a chance to see him, although I did see 8 hens and had one of them get to within 30 yards or so of me. So all in all it was a good morning.

I'm planning on taking Friday off of work and going to hunt my family's land this weekend so hopefully we'll have some luck. The last time up I saw a bunch of birds, so time will tell. Wish everyone the best of luck with their seasons.

Headed to my families land tonight to hunt the few final days of the PA season. They have been seeing birds just about daily behind my parents house so hopefully things will work out. The best part is that my brother is home for a few days from the Navy and I get to take him out to try and bag a bird. :D

Sorry guys (and gal:D) my season is over :(. Was without a doubt my toughest season EVER! Cold, wet and windy conditions plus the lack of birds made this May a tough one. Sorry I couldn't put up the numbers. :( Good luck to the rest of you!

Joe

Don't be sorry. You gave it your best shot. There is always next season.

Is season still open for anyone on our team??

Well my season closed about 2 weeks ago. Unfortunatley I got stumped this year. I hunted two of the last three days of the season and managed to get some birds patterned out. The second day I hunted I was about 30 yards too far from where I needed to be to close the deal. :( All in all it was a great time out with my brother who managed to get home from the Navy for the weekend. :)
