WHISKEYSWAMP
I got up at 3:30 Saturday morning to make the hour drive to my favorite turkey hunting woods. I had to get in there early as I didn’t want to spook the birds off the roost… I knew I’d be close as they roost in the area every year. I was set up with a little after 5:15 and waited for day break. As day break approached I could see a couple birds roosted about 70 yards away… shortly after 6am one of them started gobbling. It wasn’t long after the others in the area joined in. I remained silent until I knew at least one gobbler was on the ground… once they flew down just down off the ridge just out of sight I let off a couple soft puts and one cam strutting up the hill. As my focus was on the strutting tom, a jake came in from my left about 30 years away. Another tom and chased the jake away. I could have shot that tom but wanted the the strutter… he was still about 50 yards out. After 10 minutes or so of waiting, he finally strutted his way closer and I let him have it. I ran to my bird and the others flew across the river bottom… Measurements are: 21.5 pounds… 9.25” beard… 1” spurs I had to take a picture using my trail cam camera... didn't realize the cord hanging down in the upper left until I loaded the pic onto the computer... bluelund79
I struck out this year....Very Disappointed, but that is why it is called hunting and not shooting. Waaaay to much going on at work to get more time in the woods during that last season, but that isn't much of an excuse...Congrats to all that scored this year! AdvantageTimberLou
Well its tag soup for me guys. Sorry. I did see some over the weekend and had fun at a new spot. Only thing close enough was a hen that got near my decoys at 25 yards. On Saturday, had the Pretty boy and girl setup out in front of my blind. I do some yelps and hear a gobble. So the new spot is looking real good. Well he flies down and has to come about 150-200 yards across this newly plant corn field to my set-up. Well he is taking his time, gobbling to my yelps but comes no closer than 100 yards. Then he decides to go the other way. I'm like what happened? Well at the other end of the field a lone hen wandered out into the field so he went that direction. So much for that Tom! So I settled into watching deer the rest of the morning, seen 6 bucks and one very nice one with antlers outside his ears already. I don't hunt this property for deer, a buddy does and I told him he looks like he is going to have a great fall bowhunting there. So the next morning I decide I am going to hunt where that Tom came into that field, be on that end and maybe get a shot. Well I hear him gobbling and wouldn't you know it, he is by the spot I hunted the day before! He would not come my way and hooked up with some other turkeys, 2 hens and 3 jakes. From there they left the property I hunted and when to another piece separated by a 20 foot wide patch of woods leading to a cut corn field that has yet to be plowed under. So I snuck out of my blind and hid in the ditch to watch them. That Tom was strutting for the ladies for a long time. They eventually worked their way to another section. Hours pasted by and I seen them come back out only to run the opposite way. I am 200 yards away so I know they can't see me. I glass the field and to my astonishment, two horses got loose and were running around the fields. The owner finally caught them and the turkeys were gone from my view. I did see them at this new spot and with little scouting time allowed I was happy to say the least. It could be a permanent turkey spot for me in the future as my buddy just deer hunts and to him, the turkeys mess with his hunting come fall, wants them gone!! So I'll glady try and help him out. I will post pictures of my set-ups later on. Congratulations to all those that scored and it was fun being on this team!

bluelund79
Looks like a real nice place and great set up! Of course now that season is over I secured 20 acres w/i 20min of my house that has both turkeys/deer and hasn't been hunted in almost 8 years...GO figure. Looks like bow season will dig deeply into my duck hunting this year. Thanks for being a great group of people...Eric
