Darron
I pulled my SD card today in my Moultrie D40 and when I went to view it in my digital camera the display said "memory card error." What would have caused this? Was it a bad SD card? I am using a 1GB SD card. The first SD card I used worked fine and when I switched it out the second one did not. buckee
Sometimes when you pull a card without turning the power off on the camera first, you can screw up the card, or lose your pictures. Other than that, I haven't got a clue.
Leo
Ditto on Buckees Power off comment. Certain brands of SD memory do not work with every camera out there. If it's the first time you tried that card in that setup it might be an incompatibility issue. I'd test it. First thing you need to do is format a new card with the camera you plan to use it in. Sometimes that will "heal" a previously broken card. Format it and take some test pictures.
Ravin R10 man
some cams do not accept every card, or even every battery..at least that is my experience with my moultries..I always go out with multiple cards and batts when I change them out. Always shut the power off before removing the sd card.

wtnhunt
Cannot help with moultries issues, but these cards all for teh most part work the same. If the card is a card you have been using, it could have dirty contacts especially if you carry it in a pocket. Always try to carry my cards in sleeves now, have had errors happen in the past prior to using the sleeves and then blown the contacts with a blast of air and had them go back to working fine. Also if the card is used and has been used a good bit, would be a good idea to reformat it. If all else fails, there are programs that will repair errors. Lexar puts a program on some of its cards, that the program has a repair and recovery tool, pretty sure there are also some free programs on the internet that do the same. How do you reformat the cards? Where exactly do they slide into the computer? The only place I have seen is the USB port.
Leo
Important Tip!! Use your camera to reformat the cards NOT the computer. The computer can do it however windows might not do it in the most ideal structure for the camera. The camera will force the format to the ideal structure for itself. The owners manual often contains a list of recommended cards. If you buy anything not on that list performance is not guaranteed. SD cards all have to fit some required parameters BUT sometimes it falls outside what the camera can deal with. Stealth Cams in my experience are much more fussy about card type than Moultries. Sounds like you need a card reader for your PC. It's fine to get copies of picts off the card but don't use the PC to delete photos off the card. Windows deletion on flash memory cards leaves "artifacts" that affect card capacity. The only way to fix this is to reformat the card. Preferrably use the camera to do this. Tom2008
I was going to say the same thing Buckee. On our Moultrie's I will always swich off of the Auto mode and then turn it off. After that I'll pull the card and put the new one in. Then I turn it back on and switch it back to Auto mode and its all set. No messed up pictures or anything. Darron
You would need a card reader to use your computer. Would follow Leo's advice on using the camera to re format the card if at all possible. I bought a card reader from Meijer for $20. I put the card in and nothing. I used another card from my digital camera that has various family pics on it and the pics showed up. Makes me think it was a bad card. You could try and reformat the card on your computer and write some files to it from your pc and then see if they are there through your control panel. If it works ok, then when you take the card back you should be able to reformat it on your camera.
armadillo
If the memory card is not recognized in the PC or it is impossible to access the data on it, the controller on the card is damaged. There is only one way to get the data back, unsolder memory chips and directly access their raw data with a programable chip reader. Software can't help, that is a physical damage! Have a look at: http://card-recovery.biz/us/service.php I've had cards not get recognized on my laptop yet others will. The ones that dont get recognized I will then take to my other computer and it will recognize it. So the idea that the controller on the card being damaged is not always correct.
