Guest TennesseeTurkey
Heres what you need to buy....http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=8456818 ........That mouth call is super easy to use...I dont like the slate but that owl flute is better than the Primos because you can blow it louder IMO....that crow call is good its what I use...practice on that mouth call its the easiest to use HS Strut has bought some newer latex that is so easy to use and the call dosent need "breaking in".....once you learn how to use a mouth call buy the Primos 3-pack that comes with a see thru turquiose call box....they need a little breaking in but they are easy to use and sound awesome.... Rhino
The only crow call I use anymore is the Primos Power Crow call. Anyone of them will do the job though. As far as owl calls go IMHO I've never tried a commercial owl call that had the volume I wanted. I'm old school and learned how to owl hoot with my voice many years ago. That's one less item I need to carry. I've heard a lot of owl hoots from hunters and calls. One of my old turkey hunting friends makes the worst sounding owl using his voice and he still gets birds to shock gobble at it. With that said I don't believe how good or bad an owl call sounds really matters that much as long as you can get enough volume to get a bird to answer it. redbeard
Look on ebay for a Lohman all wooden crow call. Great tone and can get loud!
redkneck
I'm with Rhino on the Power Crow. Seems like it has a high pitched intensity that really gets to 'em. Only problem i've had with it has been having a pile of crows coming down to me and then i couldnt hear a thing.
Dakota
I'm also with Al and Redkneck when it comes to owl calls. That's the only one I have in my vest! Dakota
Covehnter
If you want a really good owl hooter look at the Harrison Hoot tube from Hooks. That is as close as you're gonna get to having feathers I gaurantee. He won the nationals this year with it, unbelievable. I use my voice, but I've been at it awhile. Adjam5
I have had good success with the HS Strut line of crow ( Hammerin' Crow) and Owl hoot tube calls. The crow call works both for crow hunting and the shock gobble on turkeys. The Owl call is also a shock gobbler, but I also have used it when I set up an Owl decoy while crow hunting. Those crows just hate Owls and Hawks. I am sure there are many more calls out there that will do the trick, but these are the two that I carry in my vest. AdrianJHare
Spending a day at a sports show and listening to different calls from Reps of Companies is a great way to pick out the good from the bad. Believe me QuakerBoy makes one of the best sounding crow calls. When it comes to Crow or owl calls most times the pitch is what tends to work and the pitch could be different from one day to the next depending on the air presure of that day...
