c_lou
My wife is frustrated with my computer that I have for work, hey it was free since I have to be on call, but she wants a new laptop. So, spend my money. Here is what I am looking for. I want one that can handle our pictures and the small editing that I do. I like to play some games, nothing intense, Sim City, Diablo 2, and the likes. Something for the girls to use to play learning games and eventually take over for school work. Budget of $2000 or less of course. I want good Customer Service is something breaks. I ain't got the time to sit on hold for 2 hours with somebody from Idontknowistan. 92xj
If you have time, and have a Mac store close to you, go there and play on there new comps. They will let you play on it all day long if you want to. The customer service is unreal. I have a Mac Power Book G4 and it does way more than I will ever need. I had a PC for the past 10 years, and I just got this mac 2 weeks ago and there is no way I will go back to a PC. The ease of use is great and the operating system is awesome. Anyhow, my opinion is with mac..... my 2 cents...
pendog
I just bought the HP dv5-1251nr LOVE IT!! It has great memory and graphics card, check it out and compaire it against the others. Plus i got it on sale for $699.99 with a free printer (if they ever get more in after the rain check:rolleyes:) I don't think there is any reason to spend 2 big ones, some real good ones under 1 G. Heavy Metal
If you're really serious about getting the right computer and you want it to last along time, Go with a Macbook Pro. I just got my new one for work. Never have to worry about spyware, system slowing down over time from contamination and viruses. They are smokin' fast and OS X is the most stable operating system ever made. And I am a PC fan. I use both. But I was thrown into the Apple world years ago as a Graphic Designer. Since OS X came out (around the time Window's XP came out) that was it for me. The 13.5" can be had for around $1500. The 15.4" (what I have) is $2k. 17" for $2500+. There's know way I'd waste my money on a PC laptop of any kind if had a $2000 budget. If my budget was $1000, sure, PC would work. There are Apple viruses, but they are extremely rare. In 10 years I've never had one and never known another Mac user to have one....and I've known many designers and vendors that had Macs over the years. They even make the Diablo's for Mac! MS Office, you name it and the Mac rules all for photos and graphics of any kind. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9218358&type=product&id=1218060783906 $1000 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9107414&type=product&id=1218024598155 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9107432&type=product&id=1218024600202 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9107478&type=product&id=1218024600809 (mine) All Apples come with all the photo, dvd, video, digital media and music software you'll ever need as well. redkneck
I've never owned a mac, but you can get a Dell to do the things you're looking to do for well under $1,
HUNTINGMAN
I love my dell desk top but have had nothing but problems out of my dell lap top.It is a inspiron 1501,we have had it for about 2 years and have had to much to list go wrong with it.The good thing is that with the extended warrenty nothing cost me a dime out of my pocket and there costomer service is top notch. The last time it messed up the sent me a box and we sent it to them and the rebuilt the whole thing,we havent had any prolems out of it since then. When the wife was on the phone talking to them one time they told her that the reason it was getting hot was that just because it was called a lap top didnt mean it was supposed to be helled in your lap and to keep it on a table.I thought the whole point of getting a laptop was to use while sitting in your lazy boy.Good luck with your serch and hope this helped.
