Swamphunter
So, with my sons new bow to arrive today from Bowhunters Superstore (extremely fast shipping - btw:D), I am going to slowly start searching around for extras. Should he start off with fingers or a release? If so, what release should a 9yo use? Thanks
Tom2008
Tru Ball makes the Jr. Stinger release and my girlfriend loves it. Otherwise Trufire Makes a Patriot Jr. or the Surefire Jr. Here is Tru Balls section with all of their Jr. Releases. It looks like they make a Jr. version for most of their models. http://www.truball.com/Pages/3juniors.html Edited March 5, 2009 by Tom2008
redkneck
Definitely a release, i think. Several models out there should fit him. I cant name them, but i know when i try them out, the trigger is too far back. Also, get one that's adjustable.
QDMAworks4me
I have always thought about this questions also, because children learn a lot while just trying to hold the bow the first few times, do you add another thing for them to learn. I guess I would try it with the realease and teach them the correct things all at once and see how it goes. The pro shop here always seems to start children with a realease and actually they do really well. They probably learn quicker than we do anyways
AdvantageTimberLou
The Patriot Jr. is a great choice Ken. Pretty easy on the pocket book and will get him familiar with caliper style releases. If you want I can send you a caliper type Tru Ball release that my girls will use when they can shoot. At 2 & 4 they are a little young for a release but if you want to borrow it and see how your boy likes it before you commit to buying one, PM me and I'll send it out to you to use. Your only out about $3.00 to ship it back!
wtnhunt
My daughter tried a few Ken. She actually liked the tru fire patriot jr release better than the other couple youth releases that she tried, surprised me a bit because it was cheaper than some of the other ones that we were considering. Tom2008
We outfit most kids at Gander Mountain with the Patriot Jr. A great release for the price.
LifeNRA
I got this for my daughter, she likes it. She also likes the way the trigger is curved. Like me, I dont care for the triggers that are straight. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0004439414362a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntt=tru-fire&Ntk=Products&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3Asort=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form1&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-
Turkeygirl
I shoot a TruBall Cyclone and it would be a good release....I also have a Truball cyclone leather release strap that is a child's size...so in case you were interested and wanted it...brand new...TruBall sent it to me but too small for my wrists. The_Kat
Scott Lil Goose........
dbHunterNY
Scott Lil Goose........ I shoot it! It's adjusted all the way out, but still fits. It can get pretty compact though. It's a good release that should grow with a young shooter until it wears out I would think. - Dan
Straight Shooter
Scott Lil Goose........ This is what I've got Hammer shooting now, I started him out with a Cobra Youth when he was 8 years old. He shot fingers with his earlier bows that had very light pounded, higher poundage bows and more aggressive cams will make his fingers sore from shooting and might make him not want to shoot. ruttinbuc
Why heck, I shoot with a Scott Lil Goose. Perfect fit for me. Small and right there where I need it. I don't like a big floppy release I have to search for. The little bitty goose is another you might be interested in for a youth release.
