NY Outdoor News A real DUD!!

Recommended Posts

I just got my latest and maybe last issue of NY Outdoor News. On page two is an article by the editor Steve Piatt, titled: "DEC'S deer-feeding ban needs to be reviewed".

This has to be the most uninformed article I have ever read from an editor of a sports publication! It was absolutely hideaous. The writer claims he was a "c" student in high school and got a "c" in biology. Trust me it shows.

His beefs with the Dept. Of Conservation in NY are never ending. This time Mr. Piatt is hammering on DEC for banning the feeding of deer in our state.

He relates feeding bans to the outbreak of CWD in our state. This in fact led to the feeding ban as we know it today, but was only the final factor to an outright ban the state had been seeking to impose for quite some time anyway. If in fact, the writer had done any homework at all, he would realize the DEC has a number of qualified biologists who have for years tried to discourage feeding deer any time of the year. I'll not try to explain why, as there are so many articles already written on the subject by much more qualified persons than me. Articles have appeared in "Deer and Deer Hunting" mag. which discourage such feeding practices as Mr. Piatt has suggested, along with a multitude of other publications and papers. I find it hard to believe the Editor of an outdoor publication can be so nieve as to write such an editorial.

I would encourage anyone who receives this paper to contact the editor and ask him to research the subject more closely and print a retraction to his views.
