fly
My Bible study was interrupted this morning as police were warning local church's that a gunman had shot people during a Baptist church service in Maryville IL this morning and had not been caught yet. Don't know the specifics, but my dad goes to church at a Baptist church in Maryville, but didn't today because his car is broke down. I'm not sure if it is the same Baptist church. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29582081/

ruttinbuc
Makes you wonder what can set someone to do such a thing. The news said it was someone that was not recognized by the congregation. Sad.
stcif
People always ask this question, "why would someone do something like that"? I ask myself that question to. The bottom line is we must punish the person responsible, not look for reasons to feel sorry for him. Lawyers will line up to represent him, and he deserves a good defense I guess. But I don't want to hear that he wasn't hugged as a child or crap like that. He did a real bad thing. If found guilty he should be disposed of. I am responding here knowing next to nothing about this case. Unfortunately politicians will cry for more gun control. I recently read a report from the FBI about people who have shot cops. Almost every person possessed a gun that was stolen or obtained in some illegal fashion. Hey guess what, none were purchased through this suppossed gun show loophole. The cop shooters all were interviewed after conviction and they said they laughed at gun laws. They didn't matter one bit. I know I am going off on a tangent. I pray for those lost in this tragedy and their familes. We need to wake up as a society and do away with the people who wreak havic on our lives, hopes and dreams. fly
Well, the church was the one my dad goes to and he knew the paster that was murdered fairly well. I'm glad his car wasn't working today. I believe the gunman tried to kill himself with a knife after his gun jammed. I read he was taken to a local hospital and was never a threat to other church's this morning. Tragedy can come at any time for anyone of us. Glad I know me and my family have a heavenly home where we will be safe for eternity.

stevebeilgard
ya i hear that the gunman is not lookin good likw hes not going 2 make it to me, that right there is a happy ending, and the only good news of the story. i'm glad your dad is fine, and there was no terrible news of the church people who got shot. even a concealed weapons permit holder cannot have a gun in church. but the criminal could. i don't care what his home life was like, what his political views are, or if he was sick. he can go to blazes now. Hoosierbuck
I carry a gun to church every week. Of course my neighbors in Illinois do not have carry permits available. Why do you say that permit holders can't carry in church, Steve? Is that a Wyoming law? Condolences to the family and parishoners. doubleA
Truly a sad, sad event. We almost had a simular thing happen at our church a couple of years ago, the person was a mental case and was caught before entering the church. The deacons and ushers have emergency plans for things such as this. It is the sad world we live in today that we can not even worship in peace without the thought of something like this happening in God's house. Prayers go out to the church and all that were involved and their familys.
