Jorden
Now I dont know much about making and maintaining arrows so I have a few questions. They may seem dumb but I really dont know what I am doing. I recently bought some arrows and wanted to put some wraps on them. Now do I have to strip the arrows of their exsiting vanes to put the wraps on or what. And if I do, then do I need to buy new vanes to put on and what is the best way to do that:confused::confused: Thanks guys I really appreciate it. Turkeygirl
Well you will need to removed your existing vanes...they make vane removers or I use a really sharp knife and youh ave to angle it just right....once you get all the old glue and what not off....you'll need to clean it with something like denatured alcohol, which you can get at Walmart. You want your bare shafts as clean as possible...then if you are going to put wraps on...take a computer mouse pad, but the wrap sticky side up on it and you'll put your arrow on it and roll it on and smooth it out, trying to avoid air bubbles. Then you'll need a fletcher for new vanes, and glue..... I might suggest doing a search on archery talk, lots of good tips there but you'll get good advice here as well...or maybe even go to your bow shop and ask the guy to show you how it is done. AdvantageTimberLou
this is the exact reason why i didn't order Arkansas Razorback arrow wraps last year. Too much work I don't see putting vanes and wraps on as work. More like a stress reliever and something fun to do in the evenings. I did 6 on Friday and 2 last night just to get a color combo I might like. Its fun. Work is that thing you go to Monday through Friday with annoying co-workers. Working on archery equipment is nothing like work!

hammerforged
Okay - say i can get a real good deal on factory bolts for my Crossbow but I want to swap out the wraps and vanes. The videos that Joe suggested are great for removing the factory vanes and installing new ones but what about the factory wraps, will acetone remove the wrap so I can install one of my own design? What would be the best jig to get? As Shultzy would say "I know nothing".
AdvantageTimberLou
John (LifeNRA) did some for me years back, I thought I couldn't do it. Now I see it as enjoyment and can't wait to see what new color combo I can come up with next. When the kids go to bed tonight I will be making up 3D arrows! Kinda fun and so relaxing after a long day.

I use a tool to strip off the old wrap and and then use a SOS pad to remove any adhesion left on by the wrap. Plus the fine steel wool from the SOS pad does a fine job cleaning for the new wraps. As far as the best jig, BITZENBURGER!
