North American Hunt Club?

OK...there have been a lot of threads on this subject.

Do a search and see what you can come up with.

I am a Life member there and regret it. When it was a small family owned club( The Burke family), is when I got on board, the Mid 1980's. It was purchased by a European investment firm and they turned it into a full scale, money generating operation. What it has become is a company that is FOR profit and makes no bones about it. You will get inundated with solicitations from all over. The "Club" basically is a organization that you pay to join, so they can sell you products with their logo on it. They sell your info to other companies to market you items, and even send items without you asking for them. Then it becomes your job to ship it back at a cost to you. I also used to be a frequent visitor to their website, until I noticed PETA and save the seals ads on it. When I complained about those ads, I was told that it was the google bots that take certain words off of the site and advertise according to those words that are acquired from the site. They also placed pages and pages in their magazine of "male enhancement ads" "tobacco ads" and "alcohol promotion ads", regardless of mine and others objections that were posted on their forum. They ads continued, I posted about them also and was silenced by having my posting privileges suspended. That was the last I ever went on their website and I notified them about how I wanted to be taken off of all their mailing lists and contacts.

The ONLY good thing I liked about the NAHC was, the field testers program. They would send you free items for you to test and write a review about. After the review, you got to keep whatever they sent. I have only gotten small items like bug spray and a cleaning jag for muzzleoaders. But others have gotten firearms, boots binocs ect. Your mailbox will be flooded with offers and they also run the NA fishing club, NA gardening club, NA handymans club...all merchandising companies. I have no issues with any company that is for profit...Hey thats the American way, but they seem to care more about selling your name and their bottom line than actually REALLY being about hunting.

They sent me the Life member leather jacket, which I will never wear. That is how strongly I feel about the NAHC.

Atleast I get a lifetime magazine subscription.

Do a search here on Realtree and read other opinions...obviously, I am biased:p

Here a few links I found on a quick Google search.

I need to renew my membership there. I've written for the magazine and been on the show once. I really can't say I have anything against them...especially since I'm friends with Dave Maas, Bill Miller, Gordy Krahn, Larry Weishuhn, Judd Cooney, Ernie Lanthier (although I think Ernie has moved on to freelance videography) and Melisa Bachman and they are all top-notch people and good honest hunters, media members and outdoors men and woman. I love the magazine, show and field tests and have never heard anything bad about them before.

Have you been living under a Rock???

I understand having the relationships you've stated...but there have been threads about that Club every year since I've been a member. I joined here before my move up to central NY in the summer of '03. My "Joined Date" is actually a few years shy of the real start date which was '02...I had a different username then.

I was a member several years ago and I quit when there was an endless stream of crap being sent to me and if I didn't return it by a certain date, they would get real nasty about a payment!

I have not missed them one bit since I quit!

Ditto. Be prepared if you join. Kind of like a book club.

Ditto too. I'm still a lifetime member but I sure wish I could get my money back. I had the same problem as OJR. A couple of letters finally cured that problem but I ended up paying for junk I never wanted before then. Initially you could send it back and they paid the postage. That suddenly changed where you paid the postage to return it. That was probably due to the amount of junk they were paying return postage on that most members didn't want.

Outside of the problem stuff they sent out of the blue with a time frame to return or pay for it, I've never gotten anything from them but their magazine. That's all I get now too.

I became a life member about 10 years ago.

I bought some recipe books and books on hunting different species when I first joined. It was like a book of the month club as everyone has mentioned.

I then decided not to buy any more and really don't remember if I had to call or whatever, but I haven't received anything from them (except my monthly magazine) for about 8 or 9 years now. I believe the lifetime membership was 300.00 and that included a leather jacket I wear every winter and still wear. As far as durability it has held up very well.

It was a smart move for me, but then perhaps I was just lucky?

I joined it a long time ago. I was not a life member. It all sounded good and the magazine wasn't bad. Then the books started coming, one after the other. They gave you the first one for $6 or some low price and then they expected you to pay $30 and up for all the rest and then try to collect on you because you didn't get it back to them on time. I also experienced an influx of outdoor related junk mail. Never got anything to field test.

I joined again after talking to a guy who told me I could opt out of the book and video stuff when I joined. Was not a couple months later and the same outdated (J Wayne Fears) book showed up at my door. Bad enough I got the book, but the same one I got 10 years ago. I returned it along with a letter telling them what I thought. Regardless a few months after that I get a video from them! I called and told them by law I could keep any unsolicited goods I receive in the mail and was not liable to pay for it. I didn't get anymore billing and finished out the subscription. I still get mail asking to join. No thanks...never again. Jackie Bushman don't hunt on my dime anymore, either...
