Saw and almost stepped on and killed the biggest snake Ive ever seen....Had my one and only SD card not been in my trail cam Ida took a pic of it..... this thing was LONG......I held the tip of the tail at or round about my belly button and it was touching the ground (with the head and 3'' of the body shot off!) This is just the second snake Ive ever seen here.....Ya'll watch out when your out in the woods they are out and about!

What color was this snake that needed shot in half? sounds like a black snake to me if it was still that long with 3 feet gone from it.

Its was black.....''=Inches there Ken :D it was long with 3'' off of it :D

True, Kirk...but wait until you get into a Primos' "Will Walker Sit'iation" and have to stab one in your tree stand while in it with your arrow! :D:D:D Playing Devil's Advocate I know! :D:D:D I personally hate the buggers, there's a reason the Devil took the form of a serpent. ;)

Dakota :D

Sounds like a non-poisonous one. Probably a black runner. I don't kill those or any other non-poisonous snakes. I usually don't bother killing the poisonous ones either, especially if it's going to potentially mess up a hunt.

It's been several years but I read an article once that said, if memory serves, about 80% of snake bite victims were people trying to kill the snake. Be careful out there. ;)

Sure you didn't read it in that article I posted on that thread called snake protection? Cause it said it too;):D

Personally, I'm too big of a chicken to kill one with a stick :D:o:cool:

If it was black, it might have been a black racer. Black racers are very good snakes to have around, especially those bigger ones. They will kill and eat venomous snakes. I have seen black racers reach 6 foot long here. We do not have indigo's around here, but indigo's are also dark colored and they get a bit bigger than the racers do. They will also eat venomous snakes.

We most commonly see water moccasins and copperheads here.

You're dead-on as usual Al. Guys, I'll go out of my way to run over a possum, skunk, or coon on the highway, but also go out of my way to let a snake of any color keep crawling. We have a lot of snakes here that are threatened, like the eastern diamondback, southern hognose, coachwhips, etc... the only time i take one out is generally when i find a cottonmouth or copperhead in my bowhunting area, but there's plenty of them to go around. You really should just let 'em crawl off, or at least ID the things before you go whackin at them, esp the rare ones.

Cottonmouths can come out in force on a good warm day. A guy i know took these pics of a weekend killing in lafayette county, MS about 4 years ago. I dont necessarily condone this, but we have cottonmouths to spare. This was only the first day's hunt. There were over 200 killed in the tallahatchie swamp over the weekend.

Nope it wasn't that one. The one I read was over 5 years ago. It was shortly after my best friend lost a knife fight with a rattlesnake. Well...I'd better call that one a draw. Long story but I ended up running him to the hospital.

I am ready for warm weather but could do without the snakes, the rattlers and copperheads are thicker than green in APG where I hunt.I have seen copperheads every year and my cousin I hunt on manages to lose a dog or to every year to snake bites, last year he lost to beagles and then had a huge rattler in his back yard one night that got away before he could get back out with his shotgun.I wear snakeproof boots but hope I will never need them, some times I wear rattler brand chaps over top of them as an extra precaution.Man I hate snakes.

Well my girls just came up to the back door with a green snake they caught out in the woods behind the house. Guess it's that time of the year. But to those of you that shoot first and ask questions later, i'll just say if two nine year old girls aint scared of them, you shouldnt be either :p
