Tapes vs. CDs vs. Flash

Hey Guys,

I have decided to purchase my first electronic caller. It seems to me at this point the best deal is the Johnny Stewart 612-LR cassette caller, as CD callers are $100 more and come with no media (the 612-LR comes with several cassettes) and I've heard that flash memory callers are not producing much. Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks!

Re: Tapes vs. CDs vs. Flash

I use the Johnny stewart cassette one for crows all the time.(i believe it is the 612, medium range, but I'm not sure) i don't see where it is a hassle to switch tapes. You press a button, pull the first one out, and stick the next one in. The noise isn't very loud either.(in my opinion)

Also, i see cassettes for sell way more than I see cd's.

Re: Tapes vs. CDs vs. Flash

I use the one with chips (johnny stewart preymaster)and have had great results. i've called in quite a few yotes and one bobcat in the last few weeks and countless crows. There are four sounds per chip, 3 chips included with system. they play for a minute then stop and you can play two sounds at once. i'd recommend it. lots of different chips available too. I can't compare it to the other types of systems as i've never used them but i'm very happy with mine so far. the batteries seem to last quite a while also. just went on my fifth or sixth trip and they're still crankin away. one other thing, i went hunting a few weeks back and it was -3 when we started and it worked fine. another guy that was useing another type of digital caller froze up. don't know the make. just something to consider.

when i was shopping, the tapes were a concern just because everything is starting to go digital and i was worried it may be difficult to find tapes in the future. this may or may not be a problem but i think it will be eventually.

being able to download with the cd sounds pretty good though, if it's free to do so.

good luck hope you find what suits you.
