johnf
If someone disagrees with a racist, homophobic, antiabortionist, or chritian, and publicly denouce their point of view, doesnt' that, by definition, makes them a biggot? So by definition anyone who can't agree with any argument is, in fact, a biggot. So then with his ultimate flip flop abilities, the only person in the world who is not a biggot must be????....................John Kerry. fisherguy
Re: Point to ponder well not really...you see when he changes his mind he becomes a biggot...but only temporarily until he changes it back...no wait that makes him a biggot about the point of view that made him not a biggot in teh first place...so he too is a biggot... my head hurts now
buckee
Re: Point to ponder LOL..That's funny, because I was sitting here the other day thinking about the meaning of the word Biggot, and finally came to the conclusion that the oposite of biggot is Liberal

It is not the disagreeing with said "bigot" that makes that person also a bigot. It is the feelings the person has that makes them a bigot. If the person speaking out against the racist feels that they are some how a bigger and better person than the racist based soley on their opinion, then yes, they too are a bigot. BUT if the person simply disagrees with no judgement placed on the racist, then they are not a bigot. I don't agree with a lot of the interracial opinions shared here, but I don't think it makes me better than the persons who disagree with me. It just makes us different. Maybe I am nitpicking the definition of bigot, but I think you need to have the feeling of supremacy over the person you disagree with before labeling them also a bigot. Given my own interpretation of your question, I would have to say that Kerry was/is a bigot because he said time and again that his way was the right way, and at the same time declared that his group of Democrats were better than the Republicans. But, if you are simply giving your opinion as an alternative to mine. Then you most certainly are not. I think that's right. Of course if I knew that it was right then that would mean that I held my opinion in higher reguard than yours. That would make me a biggot. wtnhunt
Re: Point to ponder [ QUOTE ] My point is, given the actual definition, everyone is a biggot in some way or another. [/ QUOTE ] The context of definition will change according to who you are talking to so that it may or may not apply to who it is you are talking to. In other words most bigots probably dont realize that they are bigots, but I would have to agree with what you say that by definition we all likely feel strongly about one thing or another that someone else may not agree on and by definition that might suggest that you are a bigot. I thought the Kerry thing was pretty funny.

Norm Sauceman
Re: Point to ponder If you disagree with someone, that does not make you a bigot.. As Websters define a Bigot: : a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices. Which does not say if you "disagree" with someone you are a bigot. wtnhunt
Re: Point to ponder [ QUOTE ] Which does not say if you "disagree" with someone you are a bigot [/ QUOTE ] However if you are so biased in your own opinion that you are not open to listening to others then you may also be considered a bigot. This argument could go back and forth forever. Who cares, some of us are bigots, some of us are hipocrits, some of us are both. So what. Just a word, I know who I am as does everyone who really knows me.
