ohiobuckhunter
i was wondering if any of you had any ideas for a good 3d bow and what would be a good set up? i haven't even tried 3d shooting i have bow hunted alot but i was looking into shooting during the summer please don't say hoyt or matthews i don't like the feel of the hoyt and the matthews are to pricey for me to buy just to see if i like 3d shooting or not i shoot a browning illusion for hunting
The_Kat
Well ya took my top picks plum outta the question by eliminating hoyt and mathews. Elites are no cheaper. For a 3D bow alot of guys use a bow that will shoot at least 280 fps with the longest ATA possible and at least a 7" brace height. My buddy shoot a browning illusion and likes it alot. That would make a decent enough 3d rig for sure! For accessories....anything will work. As long as you can shoot it and are comfortable with it. Personally I shoot a TT fall away, Spott Hogg Hogg It sight, Victory X Ringer arrows with 100 grain nibs. Oh ya I shoot a Hoyt Katera XL for my bow. slinger
Bowtech Guardian! Awesome bow. Best of all, I can work on it without a bow press. They have come out with some news ones, but this feature alone keeps me wanting to keep it.
arrow32
It comes down to being able to shoot what you have. If you want to drop the bucks into your setup go out and buy a 3D if you want to and depending on what classes your wanting to shoot if in IBO go from there with your setup with choosing a sight whether it be a scope or pinned and so forth. http://www.hoyt.com/accessories/full_image.php?Display=rest2Full Must of my buddies are using this style rest fight now to shoot 3D. Myself personally I'm using my drop away still but will soon be switching over I think there pretty dang sweet. No matter what you do just make sure you can shoot the bow that is the most important thing you don't have to have the newest bow on the course you just have to be able to shoot the best and hold it together in crunch time. Make sure you read the regulations very carefully before you go to any shoots and make sure your bow meets all the specs. Good luck.
Born2Hunt
I say Mathews all the way but I understand your delima. Just take your hunting set up and shoot the class your gear fits into. Why spend $500 or so for another package to 3d shoot when you don't have to? Go shoot and have fun.
Tony
i highly reccomend you use your hunting bow at first. it will help you to keep in tune all summer and when fall comes, you should be a lot better shooter. you should probably shoot in the hunter class and keep your shots close at first, unless your very confident with your yardage estimation. if you are, then shoot whatever class you would like to. once you try a few shoots and see what other gear everyone else is shooting then you can maybe determine what you might like to get. i have gotten away from not shooting my hunting bow for 3D and i was seeing a little rust each year when i got my hunting bow out about 7 weeks before the season. not any more. i will be shooting hunter class this year with my straightup bowhunting setup. im going antelope hunting in the fall and i want to be really sharp by sept 1st. remember its not the bow that makes the shot, its the shooter behind the bow. Hoytguy
I agree with Tony, shoot your hunting setup. From there if it's not what you are looking for, it will give you an idea of what you really want. I myself or anyone as far as that goes, can't tell you what you need. Go to a couple shoots, make some new friends and bring up this question to them. I'm sure, almost guarantee, they will say here, try this one.
