Best range to sight in a .223 for yotes inthe West

Gator hit it right...Sighted my DPMS in 223/5.56 to 25M, and could accurately put kill shots out to 200(far as I could see clearly with peep sights on coyote sized targets). But from experience, you will hit out to 300....If you have optics, I'd try the 25M first and if it is not up to your standards, try it at 100yds and go from there. Good luck Sir.

I sight mine in at 1.5 high at 100 and that is about dead on at 200 and about 4 inches low at 300, and 11 low at 400, I am shooting the varmet grenades 36 grain at 3800 fps, most shoot at about 3100 or so, they will beclose to the same at 100 and 200 and about 7 low at 300 and close to 18 at 400,with the grenades I will not shoot at over 300, they just are to small of a bullet and not enough ko at ranges, the 50 gr HP I used to shoot I killed lots at 350-400, .223 is a great calling gun if you want to keep the hides, If hides are not a problem I would go to a 204, 250, or swift to get a bit more range and KO at ranges!

who makes the varmit grenades?/

What sort of damage can I expect on yotes with the 3 grain varmint Grenades? I was thinking of getting some tracer like every 3rd shot so i could see where I am shoot I will be filming for TV

Would a 36 grain varmint grenade kill a hog if shot in the neck or head.?

I already have the Ar 15

the Military uses a 300 yard zero for combat and they hi consistently since a terrorist is a larger target than a sing dog

I shot clost to 200 this winter with them and never had one that was not repairable, the early season ones never did exit, even 20 yard shots, just pepper marks on the far hide, as it got cold, I mean -30 plus they were exiting, I am not sure why, possably the hide was different or the bullets do not work as well in the cold, I have been meaning to ask barnes but I am still scraping and getting all them ready for market and tanning a bunch.still the ones that exited were not nearly as bad as the 50 gr HP I used to shoot, even nech shots are repairable,1 inch hole or so exiting.

as with the hogs, I would expect them to kill a hog at decent range, they are a copper filled bullet no lead so there will not be great penetration, hogs hides are tough, I would prob go to a lead core bullet for hogs,

good luck with you decision, let me know what you decide!!

Varmit grenade?

is it all copper like the Barnes X bullets

they are awesome used them in Africa for 9 years from baboon to wild ferel dogs to Kudu never could recover one pass thru.....

Whatmakes the Varmint Grenade open ? X like the Barnes X bullet or a cavity?

Who makes them?

What is your average shot on yotes?

Down here guys carry 12 GA shotgun with # 4 buck like a Remington 1100 for close work

thanks

theya re made by barnes, they are called barnes varmet grenades, they are a hollow point and the nice thing is theya re light hence the 36 grain but the same size as a 50 gr bullet so you can get the good seating to get the best accuracy, the 1/8 inch of the tip below the HP is empty, they its full of copper powder,

My average shot is prob under 100, had some at 300 plus and some at less than 20 yards.
