well i broke down today and bought a electrinic call. i got a Johnny Stewart call, it has a remote. it was only like 35 bucks, so i guess u get what you pay for but ithink it will serve its purpose. do u ever use electronic calls? what are your thoughts on those?

dont ever use them, but i would like to get one of the $200 ones one day. Use the one you got and see what happens, I know a lot of people who use them and have great success

went on another little shopping venture today and got the "hot dog", man this sucker is loud if you want it to be. i also got something really cool called "camo form" to camo my gun. its awesome. its not like tape, it only sticks to itself and i think it works great. i dont anticipate having to peel any sticky crap off the gun when i take it off. ya, im going hunting tomorrow for the first time with that e-call. i let ya know how it goes

sweet!!! sounds good. Goodluck tomorrow, and post some pics of that first kill!!! Remember start out soft and get loud with your calls, if you start off loud and they are close it will freak them out and high tail it out of there. The hot dog can be loud, but thats a good thing. Anyhow, goodluck!!!

well i finally got one in, and get this, i saw him on my way to my car when i was leaving for the night, i saw him off in the distance and i immediately dropped down, but i figured he saw me and it was too late. so i stuck my electronic call in a tree, hit the rabbit distress(at this point i didnt have a clue where the coyote was) and sure enough about 10 seconds after i hit that distress call his head popped over the hill and he just stood there trying to pick me out(this all happened right when it was basically dark out), so i tried to kill my call with the remote and i couldnt kill it, the damned thing wouldnt shut off, i wanted to turn it off and do some lip noises, then i felt the wind gust right in his direction and i knew i had to shoot or he would be gone, so i took a crack with the 30-30 and missed him clean. the shot was out of range for that gun, but all that was exposed on the coyote was his head and chest, so i figured if i connect he's dead, and a miss would be a clean miss. anyhow, i finally saw one and missed the damn thing---i am sooo frustrated

hey man, i would not be to frustrated, at least you have seen one and now know they are in the area. Keep up the hard work and it will pay off you. also how far was he? I have a 32 special lever action that was my first deer gun. I believe it is even smaller than the 30-30 but my first deer i ever killed was at 173 yards. I might have just been lucky but it connected and did the trick. So practice a little with the gun and see how it is shooting and all different ranges and get back out there and try again

hey do you ever have them howl after you use a distress call or is that just a coincidence? last night i had 2 of em howling like 200 yards away just over a little nob so i couldnt see em, so i started doing lip squeeks, then hit my rabbit distress and they never showed. i am so pissed, i have come so close so many times now

sometimes, not to often though, but I have had it happen. If they were only 200 yards away over a knob howling and staying still, you should have crawled up to the knob and tried to make a shot.

ya, i kinda though about that but i was in a cornfield and, well lets just say i could hear the deer coming casue those stalks are so crunchy and loud, i was afraid id spook the **** out of em i guess. you know three nights ago i saw one too, and he didnt come in. i was downwind too, there's no way he smelled me or saw me. he was about 300 yards out. i am getting really frustrated, obviously they are there, but i cant get em in

well now that you have located them and they are not coming in, try switching up your calling. Think outside of the box and try new sounds that you have not done yet. Also it might be time for a decoy, rather it be another coyote or a distress decoy like a rabbit or one of those tail looking thinks on a wobbly antenna looking thing. Time to try something new and different. Maybe try a turkey call instead of rabbit distress or a fawn bleat.

ya i know it will seem worth it. it just seems like i keep buying more and more stuff and nothing works. i know they're out there though now. i went out this afternoon and didnt see anything. saw deer, turkeys, and pheasants but no dogs. i swear these things dont come out until right as its getting dark. they never come out until i can barely see through my scope

yeah, sounds about right about coming out just at dark. You should look into your local laws and see if you can hunt them at night with a spotlight. The hunting is 20 times easier at night for them. 75% of my success has been at night with spot lights.

well i know we can hunt at night here, but it has to be with a "handheld flashlight", so i dont know exactly what that means, but what is the method for hunting at night? how in the heck do u spot em and shoot em? do you have to have two guys to do it?

The method is pretty much the same. Set up in an open field with wood line 200 yards in front of you. Call the same as you would during the day and start listening. Most of the time I have been able to hear them coming in at night. Also on clear nights you can see pretty good by the moonlight. I have a scope mount light that reaches up to 300 yards and has a red lens. The red does not seem to bother them and once you find one in the light keep the light on them the whole time til you shoot. If you turn it on and off they spook. Check out basspro shops under varmint hunting and you will see the light I am talking about. Sometimes I will take someone with me and let them use a huge spotlight that I have put a red lens in. Its 20 times more intense at night, sometimes can be scarey:D

no not at all, the light mounts to your scope and barely adds any weight. it has a switch that you velcro to the stock so you can turn it on and off with your thumb and the battery has a cord that runs from the switch to the battery which you put in your pocket. they are really nice to have and very easy to use.

so you rely strictly on hearing them coming at night? if you turn your light on to look does it spook em? can u see out of your scope then with that light?

90% of the time I will rely strictly on hearing or seeing them in the moon light. The ones I have called in during the night have sounded like ten men running full speed through the woods. Once that noise stopped I knew they were in the field and turned on the light. Once they are in the light with a red lens, keep the light on them and do not turn it off. turning it on and off seems to spook them for me. But keeping the light on them constant doesnt effect them. Yes with that light mounting to the top of the scope you can look through the scope and wherever you aim you can see with that light. They say it ranges out to 300 yards. I have a hard time seeing past 250 with it.
