WaCoyote
I handload and would like a recommendation for a hunting bullet in .429 weighing 240 grns for a 44 mag. This would be used for deer hunting. Gold dots group well but I've been told they're too soft. Thanks.
AJ
Re: bullet choice for .44 I liked the 200 gr XTP in the .44 Rem Mag. The 180 gr bullets did not exit and the 240 gr bullets did not expand enough. The 200 gr bullets were the happy medium. Good expansion and pass throughs. WaCoyote
Re: bullet choice for .44 Thanks guys. Hoping use it this year for whitetail. I'll load up a box of each and check them. xtp sounds good I just thought they were a self defense super soft load. Appreciate it. Partitions are awesome in handguns but mine doesn't like them for some reason.
AJ
Re: bullet choice for .44 [ QUOTE ] xtp sounds good I just thought they were a self defense super soft load. Appreciate it. [/ QUOTE ] Not too soft as many muzzleloader hunters use htem successfully and they are going a bit faster than the 44 Mag will push them. hangunnr
Re: bullet choice for .44 IMO the ultimate bullet for deer hunting with the .44 is the Nosler Partition handgun series. They are offered in a 250gr for the .44 cal pistols. I shot the 200gr XTP's for years prior to switching to the Partitions. They are a good bullet. hangunnr
Guest SavageTaylor
Re: bullet choice for .44 I use the same 265gr XTP Bullet that I use in my Marlin .444 levergun. I also have a good stock of 240gr hollow points for reloading, but they wouldn't be much good as a hunting round. --Ken
Strut10
Re: bullet choice for .44 I like the Sierra 210 gr. HP in my Blackhawk. It works very well...............one the one deer I shot with it. Not a real big study. But they do shoot well.
