Today was like any other Saturday, except my girls left yesterday with my mother to the beach, so me and the wife had a free weekend. This morning I decided to go to a different piece of property to turkey hunt (down the road at my mother in law's) and i didnt hear a bird. Got back home just in time to hear a fire page that we had a work detail. Blowing out culberts and digging them out with the town's backhoe (why the crap do i pay city tax?) Anyway my buddy calls me only to tell me he killed a two year old bird at the camp where I've been hunting. I'm happy for him, but it's kinda bitter sweet. We get through blowing out culberts with the pumper about 3 oclock. I'm tired and come home for a couple of hours and do some things around the house. Wife and I decide to grill some fish and make a salad. She needs to go to the hospital to take some things to her mother, and asked me to go get a bottle of wine in the meantime. I left and after stopping by the store, decide to take the scenic route only to have a blowout! The jack seemed to be frozen, and God only knows why every time i jacked it up, the truck rolled off of it (four times, and yes it was in park!) Finally it holds and i get the tire on. EXACTLY at 7.30 as I'm tightening up the last nut in the middle of absolutley nowhere, i hear a turkey sound off with a beautiful gobble as if to say "And the horse you rode in on". I could only manage a small grin as i threw the jack in the truck and went back home to grill my fish. My buddy also heard two more birds this morning in a diff spot, so i'm charging up the vid camera to see what the two of us can do in the morning. redkneck Posted March 23, 2009 Author Report Share Posted March 23, 2009 Well, they werent doing a lot yesterday morning, the sun came up and I heard a few, but heavy overcast and birds were kinda quiet. Set up on one, he wouldnt answer, but had been quite a while since he opened up, so who knows, we may have gotten a bit too close, but i think we were still too far.
