00DodgeGuy
This is my 2008 Shotgun Buck.....I decided against having it mounted as I think/hope to get something bigger someday....now I am second-guessing myself. What do y'all think. No comment on the post title please...I realize I blew it on that..lol.
The_Kat
I'da mounted him........but thats just me. Illinois has some bruisers, you'll get one bigger eventually. Nice buck
lil hunter
I would've mounted him for sure, but theres no deer around here that big.lol. At least do a nice antler mount. If in the future you ever want to, you could still get that rack put on a mount with another hide. That is a nice deer, congrats.

KirkV
First off DodgeGuy welcome to the forum, next where in central Illinois are you located as I am central Illinois as well. That is a great 8 point no matter where you are from and he would find a place on my wall if not a european mount in my office. What kind of score did you work up on him? Straight Shooter
I would have mounted him at the least in a Euro mount, looks like he'd go around 138 to 144. Man, that's a great 8 point! Congrats!
huntaholic1
First off that's a great buck! I have much smaller ones mounted and hung with pride in my house. To me I have them mounted as each of them have a special story behind them or are a first of some sort and I feel they deserve the respect of being displayed. They're not always about the biggest rack, but don't get me wrong I do love a big rack:)

JimT
If you have been hunting a long time and thats your biggest buck ever, you need to give yourself a slap....:_
Tominator
Hard to say. Mounting a deer is a hard decision. I like JimT's comment. Personally--If it's a bow kill over 140, it's up on the wall, otherwise it's a euro.
wtnhunt
Around here that buck is a wall hanger for sure, would have been a no brainer, but in Illinois I don't know. If you later decide that you want to mount the deer, you can always find another cape or use one from another deer you kill.
00DodgeGuy
Thanks for all the replies.....I figured those were the answers I would get. Not really into the Euro mount. He green scored 136 3/8" and is actually a 10 point. If you look just at the base of the G3's he has two little points right there as well. The one on his right side was broke but still long enough to be scorable. My buddy keeps giving me crap about not getting him mounted so I thought I would see what everyone else thought. 00DodgeGuy
I live in Washington but hunt primarily in Henry(Marshall County) and occasionally in Putnam or Tazewell counties.

00DodgeGuy
My opinion as well.... Also while your at it...enter into a "Ralph Cianciarulo" look alike contest:D That is funny...my wife absolutely hates the beard. I only grow it out for about 3 or 4 months of the year. I tell her it helps keep my face warm when it is cold out.
Guest Primetime/IL
He would have been on my wall, that is a great looking eight. Very tall tines, looks like he may be around the 140" mark

I would have had it mounted. Congrats on a great deer though.

bowhunten4life
yep your an idiot...lol...Im Just kidding but I would have put him on the wall
ruttinbuc
There is a reason you didn't mount him in the first place. Just like in hunting you should go with your first instinct. You could always get another hide and look for a student of taxidermy to mount it for you.
fly
I would have had him mounted and I'm from IL. Over the years I've heard a lot of people tell me they should have had a buck they got mounted. I've never heard someone say they wish they wouldn't have. In my opinion one can never go wrong mounting any animal they harvested regardless of the size. Now deciding on a taxi (based on cost) is another story.
