Leo
Get ready! Suddenly deer and rabbits are going to loose their "cuteness" appeal to a lot of newby gardeners! It is our duty to help them out and share the bounty!
Tominator
Really fighting the urge to not put something in the ground right now. It's dry enough, but just not quite warm enough yet.
RangerClay
LOL! I have 2 more months before I start thinking about my garden.

Nope, not quite warm enough yet. Will be discing our garden spot today. Might try to plant some peas next weekend.
Leo
The point I was trying to make is folks who are on the fence about hunting sing a different tune when the deer are eating THEIR beans! Seed sales are up at record rates for "recreational" gardeners. Bottom line, more folks are planting gardens because they need them. Hunting for food or protecting food is going to be understood by quite a few folks, very soon!
Adjam5
Funny you should bring that topic up Leo. Our local paper here has asked "who is planting gardens due to the economy to save money?". Many on that forum were saying how they could not plant due to the varmints and deer decimating their gardens. You bet their attitudes will change when they cannot establish a garden. Hmmmm, maybe I can find a few new places to hunt:p Here, my son Joe cut his teeth nailing chipmonks with the airgun stealing cherry tomatoes, and I cannot tell you how many groundhogs/woodchucks have fell to the arrow in our yard, while in the garden:D. Yesterday I raked and cleaned out our garden spot and spread some fertilizer for the planting season to begin soon.
HCO Team
Exactly! When it comes to survival, it's amazing how the tune can change...and the motives. I read an article in the Cedar Rapids Gazette today at work, stating how the Bowhunters have made such a difference in the "city hunt", that the town folks are actually thankful to have bowhunters sitting in their back yard "thinning" out the cities population. The vehicle/deer accidents have considerably dropped not to mention the protection of ornamental landscaping is being saved. The statistics will only help our cause. Now, back on the topic of gardening, I cant WAIT!!! A few shots and a few dead bodies should get word out to the gutsy rabbits, misinformed blue jays and so forth. I claim war!! Bring er on....little critters! I start planning my garden back in November, going organic this year!! I am so excited!! Lisa
stevebeilgard
got my first 3 rows planted (in my greenhouse). 12 more rows to go....
redkneck
Seed is hard to come by for some things. You cant even get seed potatoes around here for the last few weeks, and that is unheard of. Seed corn in short supply and bringing about 12 bucks a pound. I'm waiting till just after easter and then throw my things in the ground. We usually get one last freeze about then. Sure there will be a lot of folks who will have an entirely different outlook on the cute little bunnies, deer, and raccoons after those critters raid their gardens and those folks do not get the rewards from their work. RalfZabotskowitz
Carrots, radishes, kohlrabi, and spinach are already up in my garden. My personal favorite, wild asparagus, has just started poking out of the ground. Ralf
WHISKEYSWAMP
i think about doing a garden every year... but after the deer ate all but 12 out of the 200 or so sunflowers I planted last year in my back yard, it would probably be a waste of time.
