Well lets see. You have the National Air and Space Museum, The Museum of American History (if it's been reopened), The Natural History Museum, The Supreme Court, The National Archives, Fords Theater, The White House. You could have lunch in the basement of the Longworth House Office Building and then visit your elected representatives. Try to contact one of them and see if they can set you up on a Capitol or White House tour, but it may be too late to get signed up for it. Usually they will have gallery passes though. The National Zoo, but don't take your guns Steve, they don't have a taxidermist on site if you take out a Panda.:D

I can think of so much stuff to do in D.C. that you will be there for another week.

Have a safe trip Steve. Hope you and Rilda have a great time. Hope you take some pics to share with us while you are there.

I was a kid the last time we went to DC, really don't remember too much other than some guys on the street in bumper to bumper traffic telling my step dad how much they liked his wheels.:eek::eek:

We went a long time ago, when I was about 13 or 14. I had a blast. We ended up joining this tour they had from the hotel we stayed at. I can't really remember all the places we visited, but I do remember going to the white house, the capitol building, the vietnam memorial "The Wall" (I remember this one the most because my uncles name is on it, and you can take a piece of paper with one of those black carbon pieces and rub it on the the and the names shows up on the paper, i forgot what this is called :)). We also went to arlington national cemetery. I know we went other places, I think we went to one of the museums, but I don't remember which one. We visited the Iwo Jima statue as well.

Arlington is just so impressive. Audie Murphy's grave is opposite the auditorium and Tomb of the Unknowns. The Marine Corps memorial is just across the street from Arlington, too. Ford's Theater sounds lame, when you know it was gutted and used as storage for decaeds, but they have restored it and now in the basement is all of the evidence that was used in the trials against the conspirators. I found that very cool. The Law Enforcemnt Memorial was cool, as was the Wall, the Korean War memorial. National Archives was cool for a quick stop. Are you flying out there, I presume?

Never been there. I picture myself as a fish out of water there, as I picture you. I'm not much of a traveler/vacationer unless it is by ground and involves fewer people than my average day:rolleyes:

Vacation is an ongoing argument between my wife and myself. She wants to go to Mexico and I said no way in H E double hockey sticks. I told her I want to go to Mount Rushmore.;) She's a city gal:o

If I were to go to D.C. though I think Arlington would be one of the first places I would go.

Hope ya have fun Steve. Take care of yourself. Only the criminals down there have guns.

I went back in 1979. Mainly to vist my 1st fiancee.

Did not get to see much other than her place and the outside of everything in DC. Best time I had was sitting on the bank of the Potomac at night watching the planes take off and land when I could. Hey it was romantic;)

The Smithsonian is the one I would go to first Steve.

I was there for a rally once. Spent the weekend and saw all of the monuments, Capitol complex and walked past the White House. The changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington was exceptional. Would have needed a week to see all that the Smithsonian has to offer. There are 5 museums in DC, I believe. We checked out the Air and Space and the Natural History museums and didn't see all of them. The city is really spread out so take your walking shoes if that is what you decide to do the tour..It is time consuming.

There is soooooo much to see!!!! I go every few years for a week & don't see everything.

Here are my DC TIPS..

1- The metro is a great, easy way to get around. Very clean & user friendly. Works great for going around the mall, smithsonians & monuments.

2 - Bring good walking shoes! A lot of the stuff is within walking distance, but you will put a few miles on your feet.

3 - Rent a car for a day or two & get out of the city itself. 3 great things to see that are just outside DC are; ARLINGTON Cemetary, Mount Vernon & Monticello.

If you want to do someting a bit out side the normal tourist stuff, go to Annapolis Maryland. It is about a 45 minute drive, on Chesepeak Bay. You can go though the Naval training center, lots of cool shops, old trading centers & SEAFOOD, fresh Seafood...

You can easily spend 3 days in and around the mall. The monuments are awesone (Jeffersons is my favorite), most of the smthsonian stuff is free.

The National Archives is right on the mall itself, you have to go see the Declaration of Independence.

Library of Congress is fun, but Time consuming.

There is a new mueseum a block off the mall, the Spy museum, about the cold war spying between the US & USSR.

Fords Theatre where Lincoln was shot has been closed for re-modeling, but should be open now, along with the house accross the street where he died.

The tour or the US MINT is one of the best ones out there.

One final tip - Go on line ahead of time & order your tickets, it will save you a LOT of time!

I really love DC. I would be glad to help with anything you need, please feel free to contact me..

The WWII memorial is awesome and right at the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial and reflecting pool. The museum's are alwaysd a good spot to hit. A couple of good places to eat would be near the Verizon center. 1: being a place called Clyde's and the other a place called Austin Grill. My Girlfriend and I go there once or twice every couple of months just to sight see or take in a hockey game. The Metro is the best way to get around in D.C and any Metro stop has someone there that will be able to tell you where you need to get on and off to get where you want to go. Enjoy your trip.
