bowhuntMN
ive been fox and coyote hunting with my dad plenty of times and want to keep doing it in the future. my dad owns a ruger .22-.250 which he loves for predator hunting and i usually just bring a .17 HMR along. ive been thinking about buying a .223 or .22-.250. anybody have any suggestions or advice? anything is appreciated. thanks! jesse8953
Both are great rifles:) I would shoot each cal. and see what you like.223 are usually cheaper to shoot. I love my 22-250 remington 700 bdl:D
bowhuntMN
Rem 700's are the way to go no doubt! ill have to try the .22-.250 as soon as the new reloads are done
Shaun_300
My dad has a Remington 700 BDL in .22-250 Rem with the heavy barrel and a 6-18x50 Redfield on it. Talk about a tack driver!!! I remember watching him shoot the caps off javex bottles at 200 yards with it when I was a kid. Also shot a crow in the HEAD at 200 yards a few different times. He used to reload for it with an undisclosed (due to forum rules) of the Hodgden BLC-2 powder with the Hornady 52gr Boat-tail match bullets. It really is a good caliber! I'd also consider a .204 Ruger, .220 Swift, .223 Rem, .223 WSSM or .25-06 Remington. I have a Ruger M77 in .25-06, haven't loaded anything for it yet, in the process of getting my reloader and supplies. That should be here anyday now so I'll get some loads loaded up for it. Even with the factory ammo I've been using it's been a really accurate gun for me. That's what I take with me when I go hunting for timberwolves and coyotes up here. I've only taken it once and haven't shot anything yet. Hopefully we'll get out for one more wolf hunt before the snow is all gone.
92xj
i shoot a ruger 22-250 at 500 yards with 3 inch groups, thats what I will stick with for a very long time. If i change it would be to a 220 swift, but that will not happen anytime soon.
wtnhunt
Been pretty happy with my .223. Really all a matter of your preference, don't think you could go wrong with a 22-250, 220, or .223.
Strut10
How far are you generally shooting?? Are you concerned with pelt damage?? These two things are the determining factors in what caliber and load should do the trick for you.
bluelund79
223 all day long for me, occasionally the 25.06 if the situation calls for it. If your father is already shooting the 22-250, might want to think about it as well, you can share ammo testing and if you reload-the dies and what not are already there...Good luck in your search! Adjam5
.233 Good bullet choices/weights and available just about everywhere. Inexpensive also compared to other centerfire rounds.
Grady269
They are all good I don't think you can go wrong with 22-250, 223, 0r 220 swift. I personally shoot a 22-250 and I also have a .17HMR. Together they handle everything I need to exterminate and then some.
deerkiller11
243. I would use a 243 or a 7mm-08 posably 257 weatherby mag
oneshot
50 caliber Barrett is the only way to go!!!!! Just kidding.......:D:D:D I use both a .223 and .22-250 depending on where I'm shooting and my mood at the time.:)
