I picked up the glass version on Sunday. I really like the sounds I can get out of it.

dbHunterNY
is there an advantage with one over another? I think slate gives you a good calling surface all over, opposed to the crystal surface sometimes has sweet spots and spots that don't sound as good. With an acrylic striker and crystal surface it will be somewhat "waterproof". I think more importantly slate will give you a raspier older hen sound and the crystal surface will give out a cleaner crisper sound of a younger hen. Based on what other calls you're using and what they sound like you may want to consider having one thing that sounds like and older hen and another that sounds like a younger hen. When both are used a gobbler will think there's multiple "ladies" over there opposed to just one, to better persuade him into coming in. That's my understanding. Hope it helps, Dan Edited March 25, 2009 by dbHunterNY
