Adjam5
About 2 years ago, I was able to buy another Marlin 336 30/30 from my wife's co workers husband for a steal. It is a early 80's era gun that was in great shape. My son AJ used my Marlin this past deer season. Now he has his own. I just recently purchased a new scope from a Natchez Shooting supplies close out sale, to mount on it. I bought him a Millet Buck Gold in 2-8X40. We both installed it tonight, on top of Weaver see thru rings and laser boresighted it. AJ will be doing all the sighting in with it. It is his gun. He will be shooting the Lever Revolution ammo, which is why I got him a slightly magnified scope for the longer shots if possible. All I need to get him now is a set of sling swivel studs and a thumb lever extension for the hammer. Now I can have my lever gun back:D
Arkansas Boy
killed 11 of my first 12 deer with that very gun
PotashRLS
Love the old Marlin 30-30s. Both my brothers and myself all shot our first bucks with the same one. Right of passage I suppose. Unfortunately they have a reputation as of late as being "not the most kid friendly" guns because of the hammer. I will however have my son kill his first buck with the Ol' 30-30:) Some traditions just should never die;)
wtnhunt
That is cool Anthony, should serve him well. Don't own any lever guns myself. Shame Natchez will not sell to TN residents, they do run some great deals. I tried to buy a couple nikon monarchs when they were clearancing them out, but couldn't. bluelund79
Nice looking gun! Hope your son gets a lifetime of use from it. Let us know how the Lever Evolution ammo works in yours...I tried it in my 336 and shot bubkiss for groups...
Adjam5
Let us know how the Lever Evolution ammo works in yours...I tried it in my 336 and shot bubkiss for groups... I most certainly will. Thanks for the compliments. My lever gun is not a 336, my sons is. Mine is the cheapo version of the 336. The 30AS. It was my 1st deer gun and it will be my Anthony the 3rd, 1st one too. I shoot Speer Nitrex 30/30 150gr FN. As good if not better than handloads I've made. Can't find them anymore, so when I run out I'll go back to the handloads.
elnor
FYI, I have one of the pre-button safety Marlin 336 lever guns from very early 1980s and it groups LEVERevolution very well. In fact, I hunted with it in fall of 2007 and killed five whitetails with one shot apiece...very nice!
RangerClay
Anthony, I put 4 deer down with 5 shots using my Marlin 30AS 30-30 and the LeveRevolution bullets in 2008. It is a great combination, I get 1.5 inch drops at 150 yards. I'm positive your boy will be very happy with that sweet looking rifle! Arkansas Boy
Man those guns are awesome!!! I have shot most of my deer with that very same gun. My dad has that same one. man they are awesome! yep my girl has killed both of her deer at 135 yards (same shot on both deer, just a year apart) with that gun. However I want to add that I had always used the winchester 150gr silvertips and had great success (all but 2 of the 11 i have shot never took a step after the shot) but switched to Leverevolution 2 years ago and couldn't hit consistently. Missed 2 deer in a row and switched back to the silvertips. Tried and true and cheaper too.
Adjam5
Yup... I love lever guns. There are quite a few deer on my ole Betsy 30AS. But since were talking lever guns... Look at this one on the left. It is my buddy Dave's 1964 Marlin Marauder in 35 Remington. So sweet! I have been looking all over for a Marlin like that, and cannot find the Marauder. It was only made 2 years.
RangerClay
My dad has the Marauder. It is a sweet gun. VERY rare and hard to find.

doubleA
Anthony, even though you're a new yawkerrrrrrrr it seems the 30-30 show favor there too. Here in Texas I believe 9 out of 10 kids start out with either a Winchester or Marlin 30-30 for their 1st deer rifle, for me it was a Winchester and while I havent used it for eons it still has a place in a safe. Gotta love em..............
