elnor
I'm considering getting a black bear tag while on an elk/mulie hunt in the mountains of Colorado this fall. Problem is, I've never hunted black bears before and can't claim any expertise. I'd greatly appreciate any suggestions for good black bear hunting book(s) and other resources I should check out to start getting up to speed. Thanks in advance! colorado bob
Getting a bear during elk season is more chance than anything else. No one I know goes out specifically out for bear then. Usually a bear is getting away from some other hunter & bumps into your drainage. To go out for stickly bear---September is the month. They are in the scrub oaks fatting up on acorns. Hope that helps. What season are you hunting? 1st combined would be OK---- 2nd combined is a little to late IMO. CB
elnor
It'd be during muzzleloader season in September. My father elk hunts each ML season with a group of friends and they see bears every year. Last year, they even had one interloper in camp, but I'm not counting on a repeat performance or anything like that. :-) In fact, I'm thinking I'll put in for a mulie ML tag 'cause they see some pretty nice bucks in their area, too. Whether drawn for that or not, I might try for an OTC ML bear tag, hence the question about books and other resources. I'm a bear newbie...any and all tips appreciated!
