jesse8953
Just wandering what all of you are going to do when {if} you get a turkey:confused: If I get one I am thinking of making a cape. I never did it but instuctions don't sound hard. http://www.nwtf.org/tips_adventures/tips.php?id=10192 Does anyone know how to cut and preserve the wings. I psoted a "how to" on another forum but I don't think it was this one.
Turkeygirl
Well someday if I ever get a really big old gobbler, and i have the money, I'd like a full body mount...Otherwise with birds past I skin or pluck them, keep the beard, sputs, maybe the fan...clean the bird up and freeze it. Bowtech_archer07
Unless I get like a huge 5 or 6 bearded monster this year, in which case, i'll get a full body mount, i'll probably just cut the beard and spurs off, attach them to the shotgun shell and hang them from a bootlace. Then clean the bird and freeze him and eat him for Thanksgiving. I've never tried to cape a bird. I did cut the fan off and make a mount, which turned out pretty nice, but never tried caping one. Here is a picture of my fan mount... If you have questions about how I did anything on it, if you wanna try it, just PM me...
fly
Not sure, depends on the size of the bird. I've always wanted a full body turkey mount (flying) to hang on the wall. If I get a jake, I'll probably pull out some tail feathers and the beard and give them to my kids. I used to pluck the birds, but since it takes so long I may just skin it out and bake it. Nut
Eat it. I let my son take care of the tail fan, spurs and beard.

doubleA
I have taken three this season and will make my annual batch of jerky out of the breast next week. Slice it into 1/4 strips, add salt, pepper, cure, red pepper and garlic to it, place in a plastic tub and cover then place in a refrigerator over night and then place in the smoke house the next day and put some mesquite and pecan smoke on it for about 8 hours. It usually dry by then, if not I will leave it in the smoke house and run a fan on it till dry enough. It's amazing how good that stuff is, even my 2 girls love it and they are true "girly" girls. layin on the smackdown
I'm thinking deep fried turkey with the first one...and smoked turkey with the second one...:D
redkneck
It would have to be something pretty memorable to do a full mount. It's easy to do wings/fan/legs on a display. Otherwise I just keep the legs and beard and hang them up.
HOYTnMUZZYboy
I'm gonna get a full strut full mount. That is if I arrow one with my bow. Shotgun I will prolly just do a fan.
Eddie234
Last year was my first year turkey hunting and was lucky enough to get a nice sized jake. Being my first turkey I mounted the fan and beard. This year if I get one depending on the size of it, a old tom will end up on the wall and a jake will be used on my jake mobile. Rhino
Marinated & grilled turkey breast sure was good this past Saturday night. I cut the legs on either side of the spurs and then string them with the beard in the middle with lots of others I have strung up so far. mossyhorn
I bought a fan mount kit two years ago being optimistic and have not filled a tag since so yeah -if- I get one I am going to use the kit. If I have not shot one by mid season that cursed kit goes in the trash and then I am not sure what I will do but roll on the ground happy that the dry spell has come to an end. Flintlock1776
Eat him; make wing bone calls; save the spurs, beard and tail. I use the tails on my B-Mobile decoy. Best bird I ever got was backing Missouri 5/01 and Buckmasters wrote up and published the story. I ate that bird too. A lot cheaper than taking them to a taxidermist :-) Edited April 1, 2009 by Flintlock1776
