RangerClay
I cannot begin to count all of the outdoor TV shows I have watched where they parade out to the dead bird after they shoot it. My father always taught me to get my keister out there and grab that bird right after you shoot. Click on the link for "Never Lay Your Gun Down", then watch the video, http://www.realtree.com/blanton/
twowetdogz
I feel very sorry for that boy. It is a good thing to keep in mind though. I've walked up on them without my gun after I've dropped up. Odds are, once they're down, they're down....but you never know. I guess it's no different than deer hunting. I always carry my rifle with me when I approach, just in case.
GWSmith
Definitely a tough break...but I bet next time he aims a little lower. Good lesson learned for sure. If you watch that video and pause and click through the time frame of when it was shot...then look as most of the feathers fly off from the back. I hate shooting at birds that are in strut just for that reason!
