Adjam5
With everyone getting all these new toys..I kind of felt left out:D. I bought my son AJ, a Millet scope to put on his Marlin. So while I had out the CC and was surfing the net, I came across this deal on a Vortex Strikefire Red dot reflex sight on the www.Sportsmansguide.com. I got this sight for $116.97! I have not seen this anywhere for less than $149 and it comes with the 30mm high ring, to mount on the flat top receiver. I had a inexpensive TruGlo red dot on it and it served well, but not really made for the AR weapon system. The gun on the left is the Stag Arms lower with a Rock River M4 upper(YankeeHill forend) with the old sight system on it. The rightside is my factory Colt Sporter. Red dot sights are so easy to line up with a lazer boresighter;). Now all I need to do is take it to the range. This is the gun with the Vortex sight on it. It is actually a bit lighter with the sight bases taken off. The Vortex goes right on the flat top upper with no riser needed. My son Joe has expressed interest in the TruGlo red dot for his Mossberg 835, so it most likely will go on his gun. I think I will also get a different gas block. A low profile one most likely. This Vortex is a reflex sight, that is meant to be aimed with both eyes open. The front sight is visible when aiming, so I need to go with a more low profile gas block. It also comes with a 2X magnifier eye piece if you wish to install it. The dot is red or green and parallax free after 50 yards. It shuts off automatically after 2 hours. Takes a cr123 battery. This looks to be a very well optic. WE only have to see how it performs on the range.
hangunnr
Looks good!! Changing the gas block is a good mod but if you intend to add BUIS in the future be sure to get a block that is the proper height for the clamp on front sight unless your handguard is on the same plane as the rail. There isn't much adjustment on most sights if the sights aren't on the same plane. I tried a red dot type sight on my little AR but wasn't quite satisfied with the accuracy past 100yds. Even with a 2 min dot it covered too much of the target for my liking. Up close they're very fast though. I ended up putting a Leupold Mark 4 1.5X5 in A.R.M.S. rings on mine. It has a lit reticle which is kinda the best of both worlds for fast close range shooting. hangunnr
