Turkey Time

Came across this large flock of turkeys doing what they do in the spring. I can hunt about a half mile from the spot and hope some of those toms make it that way in a couple of weeks. Quite a primer for my trip this weekend to hunt with Leo for a South Carolina longbeard! Click on picture for the slideshow...

Great pictures Mike. Hope you get some better here! Preferably with you behind one!

The birds are getting very aggressive and the hen flocks are busted up. It probably won't be an easy hunt but we'll do our best to wear them down.

There's a few here too. Took this picture last week.

Thanks everyone!:)

Great pictures there rb. Looks like at least one bearded hen in the group too.

Yes, Al, When I was looking through the binoculars I thought there were two bearded ladies in the group. After a bit I realized I was probably looking at the same bird twice. They are not legal to shoot here.:(

Those birds just look fired up! Good luck rb! I hope you and Leo get a big one. :)

They were really fired up, Tom! I was there quite awhile checking them out with my binoculars as well as taking pictures. I took some video with the still cam, but the light and the zoom length to reach them pixelated the image for poor results. They were carrying on the whole time. :D

Awesome pics, Mike! Good luck! :) Is that a jake I see about to strut in one of the pics?

Dakota :)

There are quite a few jakes in the pictures, Dakota. Some were strutting right next to the toms while others were trying to establish their place in the pecking order with each other. I even saw one getting stomped a bit.

Batteries are on the charger, Leo! I hope to get that picture too. I wish I would have had your long lens for my camera with these turkeys here. They were just far enough to get their image. I pushed the zoom into digital to try and get closer. We know what happens there. :o

Really looking forward to getting down there to hunt those South Carolina birds with you. May be my last hurray for awhile and I can't think of a better way to have it. ;)
