willis smith
i have a colt wcf 38 single action army that was my great grandfathers which he either had when he was in the buffalo bill wild west show or when he was a sherriff in wyoming. condition: okay condition considering its age. Has a couple of notches on the barrel from where my great grampa used it as a hammer. The originial colt plastic handle is cracked with a piece gone from when my grandpa had to use it as a club. The rust on it is visible but the hole frame of the gun is extremley smooth and not sand paper feeling like rust feels somtimes on metal so it will take some work to get that rust off. Everthing else is in good condition except the saftey feature on it that when you put the hammer on half or full cock the cylinder wont lock and you can still keep turning so therefor it is possible that the cylinder may not be perfectly placed with the barrel so it is possible it could blow up. but did the first generation colts have that saftey feature that locks the cylinder? also if that part really is broken is it possible to get it fixed so i can shoot it and how much would it cost? also could yall give me a price range on how much this gun would be worth considering it being in the buffalo bill wild west show, used in a cattle town by a sherrif, and that being its a first generation colt. also if yall could give me some history on this gun. popgun
A serial number would be helpful. If it has a serial number below 192000 it was not made to be fired with modern smokeless ammo. If you do anything to it, it will lower the value. It may be worth as much as $1500 just as it is. If you can supply me with more information, I can supply you with more information. ....popgun
RangerClay
Willis, You have a real treasure and a piece of history. If it were mine I would never part with it. As for value, if you have the paperwork (documentation) that says that this gun was used in the Wild West Show or as when he was sheriff this could make your gun MUCH more valuable than a normal SAA. As you can see from my avatar I belong to the Single Action Shooters Society. If you go to this link which is our forum, you will find several experts that can tell you everything you want to know about your pistol. http://www.sassnet.com/forums/
