Shaun_300
Just got back from the sportsman's show, had a great time! I came across this Belguim made Browning bolt action and couldn't pass it up. The guy said it was probably from the 1970s, and the thing is mint. It's got a really junky 4x scope on it which will be replaced with either a 6-18x or 6-24x Leupold or Bushnell Elite. This gun is in excellent shape! Can't wait to get out and destroy some groundhogs with it! :D Caliber is .220 Swift. Forgot to mention, just noticed the spot on the stock in the pic, that's a piece of the label that was on the gun when I bought it. I was in such a hurry to get pics of it I must have missed that! Strut10
Schweeeeeet!!!! You're gonna love the .220. It's as close to "off the porch" as you can get but still not be there. The .220 is still the king of the hill after all these years and for good reason.
WaCoyote
Nice find. I finally got my swift this winter and love it. It's a little hard to find a fur friendly load but I love saying I shoot a swift. That looks like a nice rig with just about the ugliest scope rings ever made. I assume you'll change that when you get a new scope.
Shaun_300
Yeah I know, I couldn't believe the scope and rings on it. The guy was french, what can ya say. See through rings on a gun that doesn't have sights? Hmmm... :D Been looking at scopes online. Tasco has a 10-40x50!!! Not sure if that'd be overkill on it or not. I was leaning towards a 6-24 but when I saw this it got me thinkin. 40 power would be pretty much useless unless you had a REALLY good rest. If I had $1000 sitting in my pocket I'd get the Bushnell Elite 6500 4.5-30x50. I'll be probably wanting to spend $400 or under, any suggestions guys? Gonna head to the store tomorrow and get some powder, cases and some more bullets and get some rounds made up for this baby. The scope is going to have to wait for a bit though, may wait for a good deal online somewhere.
JimT
Verrrrry nice Shaun.... I like it! Just picked up the little womans .243 today and was eyeballing a potential new rifle for me today at the candy store.
Strut10
40x would be overkill...yep. I'd stick in the 6-24x range. Maybe even 6-18x. Over about 20x on any scope in the $400 range, clarity is going to be so-so. No matter what the price, mirage gets pretty severe, too. I switch between a 6-18x Burris and an 8-32x BSA on my Swift. The BSA is O.K. in good light.....like for groundhogs. But it's not too hot at dawn or dusk for 'yotes. The 32x is nice on the stuff waaaay out there as long as weather conditions allow you to crank it up that far. I'll probably end up with an 8-32x Burris on it eventually. Another cosideration for your gun is that you may want to carry it around some since it's got a sporter contour barrel. Mine's got a heavy barrel and weighs a lot anyhow. So it really doesn't matter the weight of the glass.
PA_Spike_King
Very nice there Shaun. I would have done the same thing.
dbHunterNY
That'd make for an awesome predator/varmint hunting rifle. Congrats on the find. - Dan
Hoosierbuck
Once upon a time, I got this Weaver scope in like 6-24 with a ballistic reticle. I believe it would be in your price range, and I have had good luck with it. HB
wtnhunt
Nice addition there Shaun. Congratulations. Don't think you could go wrong with a burris scope, should be able to find one in that price range to fit what you are looking for.
