Straight Shooter
I just bought a new bag of brass for my Super Black Hawk, the trimmed case length is supposed to be 1.280. All of these cases are 1.275 to 1.270, so I just set my case trimmer to 1.270. My question is, will this length of the case affect the load in any other way than powder space, which I'm not worried about a compressed load since I don't shoot that much powder. Thanks for the help again! SS

Tink
They get longer as you shoot them right? they grow on you Tink
LifeNRA
Nope.... hangunnr they grow on you Tink What they said. I only reload pistol and having .010" shorter casing will not effect anything. Besides, I don't know of any pistol cartridge that you would make a load full of powder. Could be very dangerous due to all the pressure created. I never trimmed any of my pistol cases down, so far I never had any problems either!
m gardner
Trimming the cases to the same length will give you consistent crimps and better accuracy. The only time too short is bad is with a case that headspaces on the case mouth like the 45 ACP, then the firing pin may not strike the primer with sufficient force. The 44 headspaces on the rim so you are good. You can shoot 44 specials through your revolver too which are way shorter than the mags. mark
Straight Shooter
Thanks guys...........I thought for a little bit that I did have 44 special brass since it was so short, but those are 1.260 on the case length. I just started trimming my 44 brass a few weeks ago and have had great consistancy with them on loading. I was getting several bulges lately on my cases after the bullet seating and crimping station. Now I know why. Thanks again! SS
