Alisha
Being the huge bird feeding fan that I am, the last time I was in Nova Scotia, I bought a tiny bird feeder and suet cake to put behind our house and filled it with seeds. Within a couple days, there was a half dozen or more chickadees darting around in the trees near the feeder. The day before I left to come back home to West Virginia, I decided to go out with the camera and see just how close I could get to them.... and boy did they ever let me get close. Not long after I took these pics, Justin and I had them eating peanuts and sunflower seeds out of our hands! Out of all the birds that visit the feeders, these little fellas are by far my favorite. Enjoy!

Tominator
Yep, chickadees are pretty gregarious birds. I've had them land very close to me during bow season. Had one land on my arrow one day. Great pics!

Doc
I have had them land on my hat while bowhunting. It is weird how trusting they are. Another bird with that kind of personality is the gray jay up in Canada. While moose hunting way back in the bush, we had a gray jay eating out of our hands. That was pretty weird considering that this bird may very well have never seen a human before. Doc

Their tameness is like a second nature to them. I used to pack extra food in my lunchbox, just for the Whiskyjacks when I was logging. Alisha
Steve - GREAT pic! Those are next on my list to hand feed. They intrigue me a lot since we don't have them here in WV. Justin refers to the gray jays as jayjacks! Dave - After seeing all of your beautiful pictures and getting a compliment from you is HUGE to me! Thanks! Hammerforged - The first picture is the one currently set as my desktop! It's my favorite too. Everyone else ..... thanks for the kind words, they are much appreciated! Once I move up there I'll work on taking a lot more!

JimT
We call them Canadian Jays here, and see them snowmobiling often. So much we always carry bread with us. Really cool how tame they are.... Edited April 8, 2009 by JimT
