Mossberg 835 barrel ?

At wally world they have an 835 with a 24 inch barrel. On their website they have an 835 with a 28 inch barrel for the same price. I am thinking that I might want the 28 barrel so that the gun will not kick as much. Which barrel would you suggest, would be using this gun for turkey, pheasant, and dove.

Re: Mossberg 835 barrel ?

The kicking I feel is more what kind of shell your using! I shot low brass out of an 835 with a 24" barrel with hardly any kick! But when I threw in the 3.5" shell! MAN!!!!!! The longer barrel will give you a better sight plane, but will not reduce the kick any better. But if I were buying as an all-around shotgun, I would get the 28" barrel.

According to Mossberg, I can use my 835 with the 24" barrel for waterfowl too, they say its not the length of barrel anymore, its the choke that does the killing!

Re: Mossberg 835 barrel ?

I agree with Life, I sure don't think the length of the barrel would have any affect on the recoil.I have a 26" vent rib on my Rem 11-87. Other guns I own have 28" barrels on them. The longer plane is better for the sight pic, but I use mine mainly anymore for turkeys, so the longer barrel isn't really neccessary for me. The longer sight plane is more useful on flying targets.
