back40
Looking for recommendations on hunting a 10 year old pine plantation that has not been thinned. Apprx 150 acres with a creek running through the middle. The pines/briars/brush run all the way up to the creek edge. Only a few hardwoods (willow oaks) were spared by the loggers. There are 2 roads that each run straight for apprx 150 yds with multiple deer trails crossing each so a blind on each road is an option. Thanks for your feedback! fly
I assume you can't see more than 20 yards once inside? Perhaps things open up near the creek? Try to find a place you'll be able to get a shot from 30 yards or more in at least a couple directions (preferably on a deer trail). Also think about the wind and have a few different locations picked out so you can move depending on the wind.

Flintlock1776
Sit like it is a turkey hunt and hope you find enough of a patch to make a good shot
Curdog
That is pretty much the type of land I hunt. I hunt out of a tripod along shooting lanes that I have cut. Dont cut the pines. We also drive with dogs in these thickets.
bdboy53
Is it your land, or public. If its yours I would clear out a 15 yard strip near one of those trees you can put a stand in, and plant some clover or something down it. You will have it all then, Food, water and cover all in one area...if you can get in and out undetected, should be heaven! Good luck
back40
This is a lease I picked up this year. I am going to try and plant one of the roads. Unfortunately there are a few pines in the road so I will have for prepare/plant by hand. Hopefully the owner will allow me to remove the sweet gums in the road.
