HEAVY-SHOT CHOKE TUBES

Can anyone explain to me if there really is a difference between these and the regular ones ? I have a Rem. extended extra-full black choke tube I would like to try hevi-shot through. It is a .665 constriction. It is a heavy black, not a chrome one. I see chokes selling out there that say for hevi-shot, but also great for steel and lead also. Mine says for lead only, but I have had it before hevi-shot came out. I think it is just a marketing scheme to sell more chokes, but I could be wrong confused.gifI don't want to buy another one if it is the same thing. Any opinions would be aprreciated smile.gif

Re: HEAVY-SHOT CHOKE TUBES

I would use it for HS. HS is more fluid than steel shot and many manufacturers treat it like steel. I shoot it in a .660" choke with no problems. Your choke tube (that came out before HS) was labeled for lead shot only so shooters would not shoot steel through it. I would not hesitate to use it for HS.

Re: HEAVY-SHOT CHOKE TUBES

Sort of. Good for, I dunno. Can be used in, yes. Hevi shot has been successfully tested on chokes that should not have steel shot fired through them. These include the super tight turkey tubes that are designed for lead only. All tubes that can are approved for steel can have Hevi Shot used in them, but not all tubes that can have Hevi Shot can have steel used in them.

Hevi Shot patterns differently than lead. It is a lot tighter. Using a modified choke may give full choke performance. Its hard to tell by the name that is stamped on the choke tube as to how it will actually perform.
