Turkeygirl
Anyone doing any scouting, hearing any gobbles yet? When should I be hitting the woods in the morning for gobbles? Is it too early still for them to shock gobble? Just 3 weeks left here....want to get some birds pin pointed before the youth season gets here and messes things up... I've seen turkeys out and about with gobblers sounding off. I haven't hunted turkeys very long at all, but I would just get up like you would for hunting. I'd think that you wouldn't want to call with locators too much. Just sit back and listen I'd say. Less you can educate game the better off you'll be in my opinion. Stay out until mid morning maybe. If you don't hear much early check out all the open fields, logging roads, and the like. See what you find. On your way from location to location keep an eye out for sign like feathers and scratching while passing through wooded areas. - Dan
western NY bowhunter
Went out listening this morning... Heard at least 10 gobblers at the first stop. Man oh man, sounded like Texas on a TV hunt! They were "chain gobbling" to the ol crow call...one would go then they all would !!! Ended up hearing 6-7 more at a couple other spots too. So, yeah...get out there...they're gobbling pretty darn good!
